University of Michigan - Deferral Thread

@momofthreeboys this is the deferral thread thats why not many have said acceptance

kskillz I looked at the decisions thread and at that time there were about 130 reports of acceptance.

The only thing keeping me sane is the fact that there may possibly be such a thing as a “good” letter and I got the supposedly “good” letter. Plz, mich, let me in.

There’s no good letter. There’s no bad letter. CC has no hard statistics to support that one presages admission more than another. I’m sorry, Brifes, but the fact that it’s a deferral and not a rejection means that Michigan still thinks you’re worth considering and that you have something great to offer to the college. Please let that encourage you.

I’m very surprised I got the “good” deferral letter considering my stats
GPA 3.5/3.2
SAT I: (710 M 610 CR 560 W)
Robotics with multiple awards, decent essays, some volunteering, very upward trend with grades continuing into senior year, all honors classes all four years, no AP’s, OOS white male, work experience. Taking courses involved with engineering (CAD, Programming, etc.) nothing really special about me especially seeing some of the stats of people on this forum so believe me when I say I was more than surprised.

P.S. GPA’s are rough estimates (my school tends to be difficult with those types of things)

@momofthreeboys 6 in my area have been accepted it seems unlikely that 6/130 nationally would have come from my area im sure close to 1000 have gotten in

@kskillz: she’s talking about the people who posted on College Confidential only…

Thanks Finnlet…here’s to hoping for the best in the coming months fingers crossed

see post 142

Cabooser my apologies. Still shaken by this deferral goodluck to all in the rd round i wish you all the very best. Oh the ironies of a happy holiday season

i got deferred with a 2370… swag… and mich was one of my top choices.

I honestly think that they didnt have time to look through all the ea apps because of the high volume so they deferred anyone they couldnt get to and sent out letters based on gpa and test scores.

ugh i really hope i get in in RD. if i send in my 1st quarter grades in early january, when do you think i’ll hear?
i have a 90 gpa and 2080 sat. VERY strong essays and recommendations.

My school doesn’t do semesters. We release 4 quarters a year, which when combined I guess can be 7th and 8th semester but we’ve never done that. Our transcripts just have the whole year grades. So right now I only have q1 grades and won’t have q2 until February.

Speaking of 7th semester grades, my WA has yet to update to show my deferred status. In “view credentials” there’s no place for my 7th semester grades.

^ same here.

If we’re going to contact our rep, should we do that now or wait until their vacation is over? And does anyone know when the office reopens?

I do believe that there is a “good” and “bad” deferral letter. I don’t think one implies that you will definitely be accepted and one implies that you will likely be rejected, it is a matter of what you send back in. The two letters definitely have a different tone to them. From what I have heard Michigan simply got so many apps and ran out of time so many people just got deferred.

Does anyone know how you get in contact with your U of M admissions person for your region?

They’re listed on the website.

If your classes are all full-year, you should send quarters 1 and 2 as a type of “semester”, whether or not you actually use semesters at your high school.
