University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

@Rohitmohit It’s different in Engineering than it is in LSA. For Engineering you apply to honors as a sophomore, provided you have declared a major and have a GPA >= 3.6. It then has various requirements such as a seminar, a capstone project, and you must earn a minor.

Anybody else get an email from the Financial Aid office today? (the email for admitted students) I sent the CSS in late December and the FAFSA in the middle of January. When will we see those documents in Wolverine Access?

@thequarterback I got that email too! Hopefully the aid info will be up soon.

I heard a rumor that the next round will come out this friday. Chances that’s true?

@thequarterback @bruin2020 What all was in the email? I got a message from the CoE yesterday (“How you can make college affordable”) but haven’t gotten anything from FinAid yet. I also got the “Consumer Information” message from FinAid in late January but still nothing on Wolverine Access, so if it’s that message I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

@petercsauer Is that admissions or financial aid?

@CautiousOptimist no, it was from the Financial Aid office, and it was the subject was “Apply Now for 2016-17 Financial Aid”

Begin message:

Congratulations on your admission to the University of Michigan! The staff in the Office of Financial Aid looks forward to working with you as you begin your journey to U-M.

Paying for college is a big financial investment and the University of Michigan is committed to making college affordable and accessible for our families. Each academic year, U-M assists about 70 percent of resident undergraduates and half of non-resident undergraduates with financial aid.

We are writing to encourage you to apply for financial aid at U-M and have information about estimating the aid you could expect to receive this fall:
· Explore the U-M Net Price Calculator. This tool can be used by students entering all Schools & Colleges and uses current U-M tuition, housing and other costs. You may qualify for U-M gift aid (grants that are not repaid) as well as federal Pell grants, loans and Work-Study options. This tool will estimate what you can expect to receive from U-M and other sources.
· Visit our Financial Aid Family Profiles page to see examples of the types of aid that students attending U-M receive.

To be considered for financial aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) now available online for the Fall 2016 semester. If you haven’t already done so, you’ll also need to complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE to be considered for available U-M grants. We use both of these applications to review and prepare individual financial aid packages for students.

Complete both the FAFSA and PROFILE early to ensure that you receive the best financial package possible. U-M typically sends estimated financial aid award notices beginning in early March and continues on a rolling basis as financial aid applications are completed.

For more detailed information about applying for aid, visit our website: www.finaid.umich.edu/NewStudent.

We are here to help you. Please contact us if we can answer questions or assist you with your financial aid application.

U-M Office of Financial Aid

Does anyone know when financial aid packages are going to be sent out? I got a half-tuition scholarship from the nursibg school today, which I’m really excited about, but I still don’t know whether U-M is going to be affordable, especially since I’m OOS.

Has anyone in LSA gotten a scholarship yet?

@Abwee67 no financial aid info for me yet.

@Abwee67 I received the Fairfax scholarship and I applied to LSA.

Are RD results being released slowly a few at a time, or is there going to be one date when they release them all?

@AcceptableName When did you receive it and how much, if I can ask. Thanks.

@Abwee67 I received it in early January and it is equal to the cost of tuition (in-state).

Damn, nothing today. Until next Friday lol

Email from Ross today

Son got the email from Ross today that says that they are reviewing his preferred admission status… @thequarterback is that what yours said?

@thequarterback Hmm, well I can’t find any such email in my inbox, but I already submitted all my materials. Though you did as well, so that wouldn’t be a reason.

@mndt38 I’ve been constantly looking too (in the same situation, it’s pretty much the only reason I come on here anymore) and can’t say. This is what is in the “Admitted Student Steps” from the admissions web site.

"Receive Your Financial Aid Award Notice

On a rolling basis, you will be notified by email when your financial aid award notice will be available to view/print on Wolverine Access (a password-protected University website). You will need a U-M uniqname and password or a “Friend Account” to access your award notice online. Complete and return any forms or requested information as soon as possible.

Timeline: Mid-March"

Though it says it’s rolling, so it’s anyone’s guess as to if that’s the beginning, middle, or ending of that rolling period. Either way I’ll still probably check Wolverine Access a few times per week just because I want to know what I’ll get, to the point at which I’m mildly fanatically running budget spreadsheets with far too many hypotheticals to count just because I want some idea of if it’s doable.

@CautiousOptimist Well, hmm, I wonder why they sent that email then. I hope they received my financial aid documents! Yikes

@flyingpig11 yup that’s the one! Pretty exciting haha
