Someone might be right about this - umich might review majority of OOS with ACT 32+ again after all other colleges’ ED reply deadlines - Jan 15?

@danloeb Ah, okay. So, I got this one:

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2015. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review.

While we recognize this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, perhaps particularly so because of your family ties with the University, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2015.

Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQ’s about the admission process and what to do next.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

Sincerely,

Erica L. Sanders
Interim Director

Deferred…

I got the same letter too. Does it mean positive? I just heard that I was the first ranked for this semester. Do you all think it would definitely help?

i still did not gget an email is that normal

@superdub Last year, decisions continued coming out into the night.

It looks like (from my school at least) a shit ton of alumns are getting in and more well-qualified others are getting differed

oh ok, i actually withdrew my application but i know some kids withdrew but still got decision so not sure lol thanks tho

@scalia13 Students with alum parents are more likely to enroll; that’s why they are given some preference.

so confused. I have seen several people from my school get accepted that have lower stats than I do as well as many others on here that are getting differed.

Should I write an email to my regional counselor? Idk what I can do to get an edge in. My GPA is low for UM but everything else is fine. Any suggestions?

Got accepted OOS LSA!!!

if you got deferred and applied preferred admit to Ross, does that mean your app won’t be considered for preferred admit anymore

@nat97xo I would wait for awhile. Your counselor will be bombarded with emails during the next few days. You do not want your email to get breezed over. I would wait until mid-January. That’s what I did.

35 ACT, 4.0 GPA Unweighted, top 3%, 12 APs by end of hs, taken 7 with 6 5’s and 1 4, nationally competitive debater, varsity tennis, etc.

… Deferred … OOS

Can’t say I was expecting this…
