Where do u think you’ll attend brownholic?

@brownholic so was Cornell early decision? Areyou attending Cornell?

Decision : Deferred
ACT: 32
SAT-II MATHS : 800
PHYSICS : 780
Do I have a chance ?

@anav29batra‌ You have the stats to be competitive, but the process is holistic so you have a chance like everyone else. It also depends on essays and EC.

@brownholic - isn’t Cornell ED binding?

yup I’m attending Cornell as it was ED

lol got deferred from michigan but accepted to Columbia ED

college admissions are weird

@hellagucci

Congratulation on Columbia ED! So what’s your stat and EC?

“yup I’m attending Cornell as it was ED”

I assume that you’ve already let Michigan know that you will not be attending. Best of luck to you. :slight_smile:

"lol got deferred from michigan but accepted to Columbia ED

college admissions are weird"

Not at all in this case. You just assumed that Michigan would accept you.

Not at all weird. I have seen dozens of students admitted into Columbia, Cornell and Penn but rejected by Michigan from the UAE the last couple of years. For OOS and international applicants, that’s becoming very common.

@StevenToCollege‌

3.92 UW / 34act + 800 math ii 750 ush 760 physics / 12 ap’s by senior year including college level math / 4 year varsity sport (and captain) + high level music + entrepreneurship
got in SEAS at Columbia, deferred lsa at umich

@Alexandre‌

nearby schools send a bunch of kids to michigan where I live, so I sort of expected to get in. I’m indifferent towards it right now, but your observation makes sense.

Congrats on your acceptance to Columbia hellagucci. It seems many excellent students are getting deferred by Michigan. It has nothing to do with academic qualifications of course, so there must be other reasons. Most top students who feel that Michigan is a safety and treats it as such in an application; perhaps by writing weak essays, is going to be deferred these days. Word should now be getting to the counselors and students at those OOS schools that Michigan is not going to accept you just because you apply with top statistics.
