This would follow their holistic review with a blend of in-state and out of state etc. They are looking at the student’s profile and not anyone score or not.
Sure, that makes sense.
I think the thing that struck me was how many acceptances there appear to have been on Monday. By all accounts, this was a fairly significant wave of (only?) acceptances. It certainly feels lousy for those kids who are still waiting – despite the official line that failure to receive a decision on Monday is not an indication of outcome. Factually, there are now fewer spots open, and an already extremely low acceptance rate just got a little lower.
Honestly we just don’t know. I will also say there were probably denials. You just don’t hear about those often.
But we all know the ED acceptance will effect the EA /RD to some extent. But I think it will be minimal. We just don’t know how many students they have taken so far? The numbers of acceptances start lower to begin with after scholarship students /athlete’s etc.
Once EA is done you can figure very roughly 50%of the seats are gone. So maybe 3700 left is a very rough estimate and made up number. It’s roughly 51%/49 %in and out of state.
Agree, I saw several denials in various Facebook groups. But people who are denied just don’t post as often as those who are accepted.
Yep. And this site is a microcosm of the real world. We go through this every year.
There is like no way to figure out the odds of acceptance just because X amount of ED students got accepted. Do as my son did. Nothing. Enjoy your senior year. You will find out when you find out.
His year he got in EA. Then like a week or two later some kids from his school got in RD.
Just be happy for your friend’s and congratulate them. Hopefully they will do the same on your acceptances.
Getting postponed or denied sucks but it’s not really a personal reflection but it definitely feels that way… I get it. Out of 90,000 plus applications the schools take the students that fit their profile of need for that year. It’s NOT a perfect system.
You will get denied from one top school just to get accepted to another one. We have all been through it.
The saying goes “Love the school that loves you back “
.
Zero admits from our OOS school yet. Always around 5-8 admits a year at a private with 240 students per grade. Not a feeder per se, but I have to believe there are some admits coming. 4 applied ED, one rejection and 3 deferrals. I would guess 20-25 more applied EA, but not confirmed.
If they admit that many students every year, I’m surprised that no one got accepted ED. But we will know by the end of the month. Hopefully good news!
That is actually not my understanding and in fact to the contrary one school I know of for sure reads on a rolling basis prior to the deadline in order to get a jump start on the mountain of applications. None of these are finalized (admit/deny/defer/WL) during this period however. It’s typically the first of at least two reads of the application. I know this because [reasons].
If deferred or postponed from ED, when can we expect to hear decision?
By the End of this month
According to their website, you’ll hear back no later than early April. Send in your Expression of Continued Interest(ECI, which is called a LOCI at other schools) by March 1.

This isn’t correct information. While some may hear by then end of the month, many deferred candidates will not hear until much later. According to Michigan Admissions office, the answer is “by early April”.
Only if they are deferred into the RD section then you are correct. Once ED and EA are over at the end of January then the RD section starts with notification in April.
Since there was a wave in EA it would be interesting to see if there are any in RD. They did this year’s ago. But yes, By April is when people should have notification and results unless they decide to continue on to the wait list.
I’m so confused. Kid got deferred ED. Heard nothing during surprise EA wave early Jan. Is he going to hear late Jan or April?
I don’t think anyone knows for sure. But based on my reading of everything I could find on this after my kid was deferred in December (then accepted in the early January wave, but I’ve continued to pay close attention), it seems like students deferred in ED (and those who applied EA) can expect to hear something in late January, but that “something” could be a deferral to RD.
He should hear something in January, so soon. Then he goes into RD if not accepted. or denied. Then it will be to April.
Read the FAQ I linked above. Not all ED deferred applicants will hear in EA time frame. Some will hear in RD. As this is the first time they’ve used ED, there is no historical data and no one here can definitely say late January.
This is correct and saying the same thing. But once not in ED or EA all are either denied or postponed and go into RD. From RD, it’s either wait till April, denied or wait list.

This should give more clarity.
Thanks! Any clues as to when EA decisions actually come out? Is it typically last day of January?
