University of Michigan Early Action / Early Decision Class of 2030 Official Thread

I know this is really specific and only applies to one school…but we recently learned that UMich Stamps is actually test blind…they won’t consider test scores at all. But at the end of the day for art school I guess it comes down to portfolio…

So the Big Game didn’t go as planned. But the funny thing is we all knew this. This is a rebuilding year for football. Men’s basketball is now #3, Women’s basketball is #6. Hockey is #1. But Michigan isn’t just about sports. They have world class Art and theater. They have over 1600 clubs and activities. If you can’t find something to do or are bored. Well, that’s on you then.

Michigan is much more than world class engineering with Google, Microsoft, Ford etc on Campus. Michigan is much more than it’s alumni that will help if you reach out and sometimes in my son’s case when they just learn about you, they reached out.

It’s much more then a leading Business school or leading Dental /Medical programs. Much more than one of the best medical centers in the world. (parents, you’re kid’s will be OK if they get sick).

They are much more than their excellent advisors that will treat your kid’s like family. I was told as a parent that once they have your kid’s they are now their kid’s as well.

Much more then their professors that in my son’s case where some of the leading experts in their field.

If your student has an idea, they will support it if they go through the proper channels. My son is living proof of this and the organization he started on campus.

The student body will push each other in a positive way. When going to Michigan just about everyone has a similar GPA and intellectual curiosity. That is one reason you choose to go here.

Parents… the library is packed on the weekends. Also not everyone goes to the football game’s. It only holds like 114,000. Not everyone can go lol.

Besides one of the best campuses anywhere. You can feel the vibe once walking around campus.

It has the Arb. Really unique to this campus and a great place to chill.

So as I root for Indiana vs OSU this weekend……what are some of the reason you’re choosing Michigan to go to?

Went back to the Brown Jug last Friday night after arriving on campus close to 11 pm. It was packed with people young and old, celebrating the weekend, excited for THE game, almost everyone sporting maize and blue. There is a proud and lasting connection to this school. People continuously come back to celebrate its traditions – all of them, successes – all of them, and the University of Michigan community. When I am in the Big House and hear James Earl Jones’ voice and his words, “This. Is the University of Michigan.” It gives chills every time. Everything about this school stays a part of you long after graduation.

Yes to James Earl Jones and everything you said. It’s like engrained into your being. I live in Chicago and say “Go Blue “whenever I go for a walk :person_walking::blue_heart:

Has anyone heard when they’ll release ED decisions this year?

By December 24th. 20 more days..

Ty. Was hoping they’d announce a little earlier…

This is the first time they are doing it and usually do it close to the holiday since they don’t want calls. Lol. It will most likely be that day or close enough.

Yeah this is a pet peeve of mine. With RD apps basically due 1/1 at most schools, a late December ED decision isn’t all that helpful. IMO it should be 12/15.

I would think the 22nd or 23rd. Would they really do it on the 24th? OK, probably they would. :christmas_tree::santa_claus:

In the old days, pre-Covid, EA decisions came “by December 24.” And typically, EA decisions would be released a day or two or three before 12/24.

This year, 12/24 is Wednesday and, for whatever reason, Michigan seems to have preferred releases Wednesdays thru Fridays. So this is a long-winded way of saying, maybe, just maybe, the ED release will come the previous week?

My guess (as a junior parent watching the process) would be the Friday before. I would wonder whether the admissions office is even open Dec 22-24.

I was just thinking about that as well but only an intern needs to push the button :joy:… Who am I kidding. It’s Michigan, AI will activate it .

First year Michigan has done Ed right? And in years past they have had to defer tons of apps they just didn’t get to. Texas did early action for the first time last year and totally whiffed on the promised deadline

I am not sure that I agree with that. Mostly hearse. I haven’t seen Michigan not come close to their deadlines in like 10 year’s or so.

@sushiritto you’re the man with the stats. Any comments about that? Good to hear from you as well.

I know of no evidence that indicates that UMich deferred apps because they didn’t get to them. And I have heard people make public statements (e.g. at parent/family events) to the contrary.

Several years ago, an insider in UMich admissions would occasionally PM me. They categorically denied that deferrals were because “they can’t get to them.”

That’s just an urban legend.

That would be my guess as well, but I’ve been wrong in the past.

I don’t post much here anymore, because D18 graduated in 2022. The process of admissions has changed so dramatically since she was admitted EA in December 2017.

Yep. Same. Good old day’s when Michigan actually reached out to us.
