Hey all,
I’m a (hopeful) incoming Junior student to the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus for the 2016-2017 academic year. Due to mine and my family’s economic situation, financial aid is a very significant deal to me. I was initially offered a very great deal package to Michigan being a full-need school, and was really excited about it.
Unfortunately, due to errors on my part, I did not realize that I did not submit my parents’ 2015 tax return documents at the appropriate time. When I did try to submit them, I faxed them to the wrong number and did not learn about this until the past weekend. I am, of course, very panicked by this; as of right now I have NO guarantee of ANY financial aid.
I just got off the line with the financial aid department and was told that I can submit my documents and be considered for the “Fifth Priority” or “August Applicant” group for financial aid. Basically I will be evaluated after all other financial applicants have been awarded and then funds will be assessed. I won’t know what my financial aid package is until September or even October, and there’s no guarantee that it will be anywhere comparable to my initial offer.
Does anybody have any experience/information on what the financial aid awards look like for people in this priority group? Will most of my need-based aid be covered? I can’t afford a drastic change
