If others are still reading this who didn’t get into Ross, this is advice from my mom…No one needs to know you applied and didn’t get in, no one. If someone asks you point blank, say “No, I thought about it but decided not too because LSA is deeper and more challenging and covers so many more areas than a general business degree will cover. Maybe I will add some electives from Ross (which anyone can btw) or perhaps I will look to go onto Northwestern, Harvard or Penn for an MBA if I believe it is necessary.” There is nothing not true about this statement, you just have to believe it.
This is EXACTLY right. You can have the same, exact career as a Ross student. I also find that students who go to Ross are very limited in their thinking about what makes a career.
Your mother is very wise. If I had one piece of career advice, it would this: Learn Excel and become expert at it. It will help you get internships and jobs.
@FoxRulz Thank you so much for this post! I did not get in as well so your words really helped me. I am also thinking of doing the Econ track at Michigan.
My older son applied to Ross pre admit and was denied. He chose to go to UMich anyway and started out as an Econ major but ended up a computer science and spanish double major with a minor in econ. He has had internships every summer and has one this summer that could lead to a full time offer before he starts his senior year in the fall. My next son also applied to Ross and was a pre-admit for this fall. They will both get a great Michigan degree in programs that fit both of them perfectly. Everything happens for a reason!
Does anyone have any insights about how likely it is to get in off the waitlist? Anyone with kids who had experience on the waitlist or know when it is typical to hear thank you
@FoxRulz what mature thoughtful posts… Very happy for you, congratulations. BTW - you don’t owe an explanation to anyone and tell mom… No one cares. Just getting into Michigan is a huge accomplishment, this year. You will be very successful since you can tell you have the drive to make it happen.
Any one planning to contact Ross to see how many they placed on waitlist?
Is anyone else still waiting for a decision, like I am btw?
I am, when did you hear back from LSA? I called them today and they said last Friday was the last big wave and small pockets of decisions will be released “soon”.
I heard back on March 2nd. I might just be optimistic but if they are still looking at us then someone may be trying really hard to admit us.
Has anyone from the waitlist heard yet?
LSA students were at Facebook today!! Just in case anyone thinks there are not any opportunities within LSA. LOL
Good luck to those waiting!
The notion that LSA grads have no or few opportunities needs to be quashed and buried right now. It is ludicrous on its face. To think that 18,000 current undergrads – triple the number of the next-largest undergrad school – will be un- or under-employed for the rest of their lives is just a crazy-making assumption. People who say or think that have no idea what they are talking about and are massively uninformed about how a career is made. LSA has graduated nearly 200,000 students in the last 12 years. What would you think they’re all doing?
FWIW, the Deputy Managing Editor of The New York Times (who started there recently after decades at the WSJ) Times is an LSA grad.
@FoxRulz I know you don’t think this, but it just needed to put out there.
Not sure if anyone else received notice off waitlist but we received notification tonight that my son would not be getting a spot off the waitlist.
Looks like the yield was high this year.
Anyone get off the waitlist for Ross?
Any one seen any admissions stats for Ross? Or UM in general this fall? Recently noticed a batch of kids getting into LSA and CoE off waitlist.
Son got off waitlist today. Will likely reject. He will move from LSA to engineering for comp sci major econ minor.
Hey, I am a current senior in high school ('19). I applied to ross preferred admission this past fall. Got in to LSA EA, Waiting for ross decision now. I have pretty much the same stats as you and saw you got accepted, so I am wondering what your ECs/essays were like to find out my own chances of getting in
