I’m sitting in the Ross building right now after speaking with undergraduate admissions. Today is the final wave. It will occur at 5:00 Michigan time.
I’m nervous, as this will decide where I go to school next year. This is the most amazing business facility I have ever seen and gives off a very corporate and elite vibe. I got into Michigan in December, and I’ve been waiting for this day like many of you.
I will not study Economics at LSA if rejected. While there are varied, diverse, and rich opportunities for non-Ross students interested in the business pathway which the admissions team emphasizes, I could not bear to be excluded from the Ross club, locked out of the most elite clubs and networking events, and seeing this architectural marvel everyday knowing I’m studying my second choice.
Good luck to everybody and get ready to check your portals. I know how infuriating this wait has been, it’s been so damn hard to see my friends get their decisions over two months ago.
@mikeesik28 Agree moving on if not accepted even though fully believe LSA Economics w/business minor would be excellent. It isn’t the full program and 2nd best option considering I want to do a duel degree not 1 1/2. Good Luck!
Really? No one has been waitlisted before today? Just to make sure where do I check my decision for Ross, there is no separate portal right? Also did you get an email because I didn’t.
Not a big fan of wanting to join an “Elite Club”…
I went to Ross before it was called “Ross” to get my MBA.
I remember a cooperative environment where I learned and grew. Recruiters valued Michigan students because they were NOT snobby and could actually add value while being humble. They worked without ego, that that was valued.
“Elite Clubs” are the opposite of that. Hope things have not changed that much.
I am going to stay optimistic. Their “Positive Organization Scholarship” program
that I went through is still there. I know community service oriented kids that are associated with Ross. In fact, maybe they got in because of this interest?
OK don’t judge, but did NOT get into Ross, but have decided to attend UMich regardless. It is the most exciting to me, coming from a small private “elite” school in the northeast, I am ready for a change. My other options would have been “safe” choices, but Michigan will push me, in ways I have not been challenged yet, not to mention a fun sports scene (my high school had zero school spirit!). I do believe LSA offers much more intellectually to me than a general business degree (Ross IS a general BBA) and the areas of interest to me as future career paths, I have researched with the help of my parents and found out, directly from UMich departments (career center, heads of departments and alumni) that NOTHING is off limits with an LSA degree, nothing. In fact more is open to me.
Would it have been great to get in Ross, sure, as who likes getting the big “R”! I sure didn’t and didn’t want to admit even on an anonymous forum!! LOL But perhaps the admissions folks saw that my strengths would be better served in LSA. My mom works for one of the big wall street firms and has been telling me all along she didn’t want me going down the BBA path and that a BBA is over rated, not necessary for undergrad as it is a very general degree as the heavy course load, Ecomonics, Statistics, Data Analysis, Financial Risk Management, Computer Science etc. is all found in LSA.
As far as the above comments of Ross students having a negative reputation, who cares about them, if they do that is their problem and it will eventually come across when looking for jobs. I didn’t want to admit defeat so to speak but I am really not defeated and the disappointment is over and I am off to Michigan LSA as an Economics major (unless I change or add another major)!!
