My D24 applied on Nov 8th, admitted on Nov 18th, COE, OOS.
My daughter was admitted to the Engineering program. Weāve read some comments on other boards the last few days about some students having to trek over to the St Paul area for their classes. Does anyone know how likely this would be for an engineering student?
This would be very unlikely for an engineering student. They would probably have to go out of their way to pick a general ed or elective over there.
Hello! Wondering if your son heard since the deadline for EA1 is today - I hope it works out!
Oh, thanks! Their website says notifications will be sent by 1/31, and they are closed today for the MLK holiday. So, I donāt think todayās the dayā¦
Thanks for the clarification - that is good news (we have gotten mixed messages on if we made the EA 1 deadline) so glad the date hasnāt passed. And looks like EA 2 is just two weeks laterā¦
Yeah completely the same for us - we applied before Nov13 (extended deadline), but in emailing the school we were told we didnāt make the deadline as the test scores and SRAR didnāt reach on time (didnāt make sense to us as SRAR is done only after access to the schoolās portal). However, the auto email from school (after submitting) said we made the EA1 deadlineā¦
@wheelerdad500 If your student wants to minimize the risk of having to trek to St. Paul, Iād suggest she submit her housing application as soon as possible. Some freshman end up getting placed in the dorm there even when they donāt have the majority of their classes there. That said, the university bus system does make that trek fairly easy.
You can deposit for housing at the U of MN without committing (or we did last year anyway). But there is a dorm over by Saint Paul campus, so it can be a good idea to get that in if itās a good possibility.
I have a kid that dual enrolled to the U of MN. We live closer to Saint Paul campus. All her classes were on Minneapolis/main campus (mostly west bank). Transit is accessible for us, parking by the U of MN is bonkers. So she typically took that bus multiple times a week from Saint Paul campus over to main campus. Itās not a huge deal to have single classes in Saint Paul at all. The campus connectors run nonstop on weekdays, itās a quick trip.
I do think ideally an engineering student would want to live in an east bank dorm. Most of the dorms are east bank. The honors LLC is on west bank and some chose that. I was a CSE student back in the day. I never had anything on Saint Paul campus and I think there are plenty of students who donāt/wonāt.
Iām seeing all the acceptances in the thread and Iām wondering if weāre missing something. My S24 applied OOS in October for EA1 and heās heard nothing.
It looks like there is only a two-week difference between EA1 and EA2 for letting students know, but I know this is already feeling like a long wait for our applicant. Good luck to you!
Got admitted yesterday; OOS CSOM - applied around Nov 13th
S24 OOS applied on November 1st and not a peep. I obviously donāt understand the UMN admissions process.
My daughter was admitted to Carlson last night - she applied END OF SEPTEMBER EA1 so to everyone still waiting hang in there. We are OOS too.
Hang in there, there is no rhyme or reason. We know people admitted 10 days or less after they applied and then like us some still waiting 4 months later. My DD was relieved to see the update last night, good luck!
Iāve had three kids apply in the last three years so have been lurking on this site, as well as heard from friends but am not an expert. From my experience, each college has their own process and timeline so CLA might adjust quickly but Carlson might take longer. Also, application strength often determines how quickly students receive a response. Some borderline candidates may need more time to process because the admissions officers need to read through the essay and any reference material and not go straight off course strength, grades, and scores. And then there are the specific schools like nursing and design that run a completely different process.
We were told this year directly from admissions counselor that application strength does not determine when people hear back - sometimes like you said it depends on school and also the person reading applications who may take longer or read a bunch and then wait -there is not a formal process for that āholisticā part. We are just happy to have this one back.
Update: My in-state daughter who applied on (10/31) was notified of her acceptance into CSE yesterday (1/22/24) afternoon.
How are applicants being notified of decisions? My son checked his Application Tracker last night, but he said there was nothing. Is he looking in the right spot?
My daughter showed me and after you login - make sure he is clicking on the application under application type āfreshmanā that entire area is a link to the next screen. Then the update is on that next screen if there is oneā¦
