University of Minnesota Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

This is the official thread for those applying EA to University of Minnesota.

List your unweighted GPA, any SAT /ACT scores, and ECs. What majors are you going into?

Hi there. Is Univ of Minnesota rolling admission? i.e, you receive EA decision before the typical mid December decision date? thanks!

Judging from last year’s thread, a number of decisions went out earlier but a number also only got decisions late January. I’m not sure what the split was in terms of earlier vs later notice, but the earlier decision notification dates didn’t seem to be based on date of submission, or whether they were instate or OOS. It seems to me logical to conclude that the earlier decisions were the clear admits?

Yeah, I remember from my 1st DS times. They offer rolling admission decisions to clear/direct admits. My 2nd DS just submitted his Common App (they no longer accept Golden Gopher app - was easy to do) yesterday for UMNTC.

Is it better to submit letters of recommendation? Common says it is optional for UMNTC, but what is the general recommendation regarding that.

It is better if it adds value usually. I had DS1 apply without any essays/LoR and got admitted in 2022

According to the past year conversations the decisions started rolling out on mondays starting from sept 15. Did anyone got their decisions yesterday for this fall 2026 year?

My child submitted on 9/21, accepted to the College of Liberal Arts on 9/29. OOS, 3.73 UW, 17 honors/AP, 1480 SAT. Excited. Waiting to see if they’ll be accepted to honors college. Should add that we were super surprised to hear so quickly. That is some efficient turnaround!

Son applied on Sept 16th and it was downloaded by UMN on the 17th. His LOR teacher has still not submitted her letter yet, which is sort of frustrating as she said it was done earlier in the month but she has a long list of students.

We’re OOS (in Wisconsin so get reciprocity), 3.58gpa (rough freshman yr, all A’s since), 35 ACT (36 sci, 36 math), will have 7 APs at graduation (Chem, Bio (5), Physics, Stats, US History (4), Lit, Physics C). He applied to CSE as first choice (Chemistry major), second choice Physics, 2nd choice college is CBS for Biochem. He’s really nervous due to his gpa being lower from 9th grade - but hopefully they truly review it holistically!

When you all get your decisions is it from the school and the major is listed or no?

I don’t think the LOR is very important. My D was admitted, and her teacher still hasn’t submitted the LOR!

For CSE, students are simply accepted to CSE, and apply for their major later. Here is what the admit letter says:

Here is how admission to a major works in CSE:

Good luck to your son!

I don’t think the LOR matters, my child was accepted without any LORs having been submitted. Her letter just said she had been admitted to the College of Liberal Arts.

Good luck to your student!
