Golden Gopher App

Quick question. My son just decided apply to UMinn this week but his school does not allow any additions to their EA list after 10/8. I’m not sure why, but I’m guessing it’s related to keeping the workload down for the college counselors?
It looks like no letters of rec are necessary according to their website. He has LOR in his Scoir account but I don’t think he can access them because of his school’s policy. Did any of your kids provide letters of rec? Also wondering if essays are accepted on the Gopher app. TIA

UMinn does not LOR, so you can apply on the golden gopher app. The app is self contained and has all the things needed for admission.

For anyone tracking timelines - she received an Honors Program acceptance yesterday (10/21). (It’s so nice to get feedback without having to wait months!)

Accepted on 10/21 to College of biological sciences.

Instate, 4.0, 1490, didn’t submit lor or essays.

Is there any perks of receiving merit aid since I already receive free tuition? Would I be able to use the merit aid for other purposes?

My OOS son applied EA on Oct 15 and we haven’t heard anything yet-- wasn’t really aware that UMNTC had rolling admission? People are already hearing? I wasn’t expecting to know anything until end of January. My son’s stats are solid but not like some of the others here: ACT 30, UW GPA 3.8, 7 AP’s (that’s the max our school offers), started his own food business 5 years ago, leadership roles on campus, 4 year varsity athlete (captain multiple times), and solid essays. Wait and see, I guess.

We are finding that a few schools are Rolling Admission in practice but not listed that way on the Common App. It is frustrating because our school will not submit LOR or transcripts until just before the deadline in the Common App. This was not an issue for UMN though because they do not wait on LOR or official transcripts for their acceptances. I am sure you will receive an acceptance soon!

My S25 was admitted late September and heard that he was admitted to honors a couple days ago, so you might just have another week or two in terms of hearing about honors!

My son just told me the Golden Gopher app only has one short answer question of 150 on diversity/community, aside from an optional essay if you need to explain anything not covered in your application. I thought it included a ‘why this major’ question also. Can anyone confirm which is correct? TIA

Correct, We only answered diversity/community and why major questions.

Thanks!

S25 applied and received acceptance 9/21 to CSOM and honors 10/21. No word on merit. HS GPA 3.989 Rank: 12/270 weighted and full time PSEO student. 4.0 for CC GPA. He’ll graduate with Honors from CC and an Associates before his HS graduation. Also an Eagle Scout. Best of luck to all of you and your students!!

Does UMN only admit on the 21st of each month? (Looking at posts in this thread, it looks like people heard on 09/21 and 10/21). S25 applied before 10/21, but I guess didn’t make it for that release. I don’t know who’s more impatient, me or S25!?!

My son applied Common App on 8/1/24, accepted on 9/16/24. Not sure if there is a 21st release date
