I am an in state student for MN. Cost isn’t a big issue for me. I would be doing a stem major. The only thing that scares me a little is going to a new place and trying to make new friends. Where would you guys go?
Illinois is the higher ranked school (48 vs 70) with the higher avg SAT. Not saying those 2 facts mean much but I would say that UIUC is the stronger school academically and prestige-wise. I would still choose UM if you liked it more or for financial reasons, but if those are a wash then I would leave home and go to the stronger school.
