My kiddo got in ED to UPENN CAS. Sharing here for anyone looking at RD: 1550 SAT. Straight A’s. Really strong in languages and writing. Not much in ECs tbh: Editor of school newspaper, orchestra, no sports. But a genuine application, which probably came through in the essays and the interview. A great fit for him. We are over the moon.
Congratulations! Would you mind sharing your son’s stats?
I had the stats in my post. Is there anything specific? I can add that he is non-legacy, non-faculty, Asian. I would reiterate that his was a completely genuine application focused on depth in activities rather than breadth of activities, his personal essay was unique, his supplemental essays went deep into Penn specifics. He visited Penn a few times (one official), and that came out in his essays; he could talk in depth about some of the courses he was planning to take and some of the locales on campus for example. Good luck, and wish you the best!
Sure! I am so sorry I didn’t see your message until now.
Wharton - Finance
Ranked #1 out of 650+
4.75 GPA (Straight A’s - Honors, APs, Dual Enrollment courses)
14 APs (4’s, 5’s on all by 5 that he hasn’t taken yet)
2 Dual Enrollment
1 Summer College course
Numerous leadership postitions in school clubs and in religious youth group - submitted resume through common app with detail about his involvement in extracurriculars, awards won, community service and personal interests.
Strong Essays - Penn specifics, lots of personal reflection
Strong Interview
35 ACT (superscore)
Congrats!!!
Anyone interested in the stats generally associated with stronger admissions chances to Penn or any other school should look up the Common Data Set for the school. There is a wealth of statistically valid data to satisfy the curiosity.
Asking a specific applicant to share their stats is an exercise in a form of logical fallacy called “proof by example.” On their own, each unique applicant may have special qualities, achievements or circumstances that couldn’t be replicated or followed.
Call me old fashioned, but asking someone to share their academic record with you is no better than inquiring about how much is in their bank account. (Of course, “chance me” threads where potential applicants voluntarily step forward on an unsolicited basis to share their info in order to gain advice on building their college lists are not the same thing.)
Is there a separate Penn RD Admissions thread or is this thread going to become a RD thread as well ?
Thoughts on Daughter getting accepted into the Berks campus v. University Park? 2-2 program.
I think you want to ask the Penn State thread, not the UPenn thread.
The Previewing Penn Instagram account just disclosed that Penn only defers 14% of ED applicants to RD.
Thanks for sharing. D24 one of the 14%…sigh.
Still in the running.
Great insightful comments - I love it
Hi
Does anyone know dates for visiting Penn for admitted students ? Just trying to plan a little.
Quaker Days usually occurs mid-April. You can call the admissions office and ask for prospective dates.
If you have already toured Penn and your student is already all-in on Penn as an ED candidate, you might want to reconsider attending Quaker Days. No harm in going — we did, but the programming was strongly aimed at kids who were admitted RD but who had not decided to enroll yet. My ED kid was definitely not the audience for the pitch (and was kinda bored by it, to be honest).
True. But I would encourage you to attend Quaker Days anyway and view it as an opportunity to explore Penn your way since most of the scheduled programming is optional. Both of my Quakers were ED admits and attended QD. They met new people, spent way too much money at the bookstore and on bubble tea, and generally just enjoyed the festive campus atmosphere.
As seasoned college parents, spouse and I skipped most of the parent sessions and explored Philly. So, if you go, don’t feel obligated to do everything. Explore other areas of campus not covered on the standard tour—I recommend the Penn Museum—or walk into Center City. Do it your way.
Thoughts on admission via the 2-2 program with Berks campus? My daughter was disappointed and may not even consider it anymore…
