University of Pennsylvania Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admission

kids are done with school on the 19th or 20th. guidance counselors have to sign off on the ed2 agreement before it is submitted - therefore there is extremely little or no time at all for the guidance counselor to do so. the actual application deadline isn’t the problem, its the fact that kids are leaving for winter break on the 19th or 20th. also, regardless of whether or not the application is ready to submit, and whether the applicant has a plan for ed2, getting rejected from your number 1, and then having to turn around in less than 24 hours and commit to another school is not enough time to have dealt with the rejection and make that decision. doesn’t matter at all whether the ed2 application is complete.

Inform the counselor that they may need to approve an ED2 agreement over the break. The timing is set, so take the next logical steps to de-risk Plan B. I agree it’s not ideal for students, but if the applicant is actually accepted to Penn, they’ll learn its administration is indifferent and unaccountable on matters of student welfare anyway, so…

Curious if other people have “decision__faq” show up in inspect element when they navigate to the applicant_status file under Sources. (the code only shows up after refresh for whatever reason) Penn rejection letters have a section titled FAQ whereas acceptance letters do not. Wondering if anyone does not have this show up and/or if there have been other signs day of (when decisions theoretically have been loaded in, idk?) that have been predictive in the past. Idk I’m probably grasping at straws cuz nervous lol

For me it’s only referenced in the CSS. No HTML element references this “decision__faq”. Is it the same on your side?

In mine it is part of a CSS file, but it’s referenced on the main HTML file (not very knowledgable in terms of web dev)

It depends on which link you use to access UPenn admissions portal, there are two different links.

  1. Welcome email sent back in November had this link - key.admissions.upenn.edu/portal/applicant_status (this explains what you described, no faq references)
  2. Email sent on 12/12 had this link - key.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/status (html has faq references)

Sorry to say this, I don’t think there is any portal astrology here

My daughter was accepted for nursing! 34 ACT, 4.0 GPA. She did extensive hospital volunteering, nursing shadowing, and got her CNA license last summer.

@NJMOM24 Sorry to hear your son wasn’t accepted. It’s particularly hard when a parent feels connected to the university (legacy.) Just curious - when he applied to the combined nursing/Wharton program, did he do a drop down to nursing or Wharton for the single-school consideration?
On the brighter side, the good thing about a denial is that he can now move on without thinking about Penn anymore. I think it’s so stressful to be deferred and hope for the next several months when fewer than 10% of deferred students typically get accepted.

He did choose the one school option, still denied. My husband is quite angry at Penn lol. I think it is because he went test optional but in the end it will turn out fine. He is looking at a different path as he was accepted into some pretty awesome programs.

What was the default school, Wharton or Nursing?

For those accepted ED, I’m curious if you received more financial aid than expected with the new Quaker Commitment. The NPC doesn’t seem to have been updated since it still uses home equity, so wanted to understand if the reality was significantly different than what you might have expected.

I was wondering if he had made his single choice Wharton, but I guess not. You would think that male nursing applicants would have some advantage in admission, but it’s a very small program and maybe he just didn’t have what Penn was looking for. (They love to see a lot of nursing volunteering to make sure the student shows that they understand what nursing would entail.) Glad to hear he has some amazing acceptances. Most students really do end up happy where they enroll. Good luck to him!

Unfortunately, you’re looking at arguably the #1 nursing school in the country, and arguably the #1 business school in the world.

Wharton itself is incredibly difficult to crack, second only to Huntsman at Penn. The admissions staff have shared that they could fill their classes a hundred fold with eligible candidates. They consider the scores and GPAs as a way to get your foot in the door, but ultimately a student needs a hook. Something that makes them stand out. Penn looks for students that will change their communities and change the world. That’s their benchmark.

We know a lot of legacies over the past few years who didn’t get into Penn. It is just so difficult now. We were fortunate for our daughter to be accepted four years ago, but admittedly she had that hook along with the scores. Equally impressive students didn’t make it in.

Your son will flourish wherever he’s planted. If he does decide to go the business route, he could always apply to Wharton for an MBA. Best of luck!
