University of Pittsburgh Class of 2024 Official Discussion Thread

@phillyboysmom the number of semesters needed to graduate from A&S would depend on whether he has AP credits or if he is bringing in transfer credits.

My D’s friend graduated from A&S in four years with a BS and MS in statistics.
She brought in many AP credits so did her BS in three years.

For engineering it would depend how many credits he is bringing in that count towards the engineering degree, and whether he is doing coop semesters.

I thought that biomedical engineering also requires graduate school?

Can some one respond on this portion -

What percent of students get off the waitlist for Dietrich?
If we choose waitlist with guarantee into Spring - do they give preference for Fall 2020 to kids just on the waitlist without guarantee into spring? (thinking that kids who took guaranteed spring option can come in spring anyways)
What are the pros and cons of the waitlist and spring admission?

Just a heads up, I have heard that is is not very easy to change majors at Penn State.

@phillyboysmom Have not seen it broken out by college but last year in total 3,518 offered waitlist, 1,266 accepted a spot on waitlist, 578 were offered admission.

At Penn State - As he got into Engineering they told me he could switch into A&S if needed

For waitlist purposes - Is it better to just accept the waitlist for Fall 2020 or accept the waitlist with guarantee into Spring? Do they give more priority in the waitlist to people not choosing the spring guarantee (as they know people who accepted spring can come in spring anyways)

I don’t know the answer to this question, did your son ask Pitt Admissions about this?

Does anyone know when the Honors college decisions are coming out, for ppl who applied after nov 1 (aka the priority deadline)? I still have not received my decision yet (I applied 2 weeks before jan 15) and am feeling kind of worried.

Good afternoon, my son was waitlisted by Pitt last week, it was his number 1 choice, but he has been accepted to Rutgers, and other Big Ten schools. I guess he will waitlist for fall 2020 at Pitt. I was told he could change his school from Dietrich to school of liberal arts and they may help him , get in and then transfer in his sophisticating year to Dietrich. OOS Sat 1300 act 27 Gpa 3.89 12 college credits going in. He applied 11/15.

My bad I messed up Upitt schools go waitlisted from Katz and his options are waitlist for fall 2020 , regional campus or Cancell app. Or go into LA as applicant , he loved visiting Pitt , we went 2 but not sure if the odds are decent he will get accepted off the waitlist.

Was guaranteed admission to Spring one of the options you were provided?

I updated my SRAR and my school sent transcripts to Pitt almost 2 weeks ago, as they requested mid year grades (originally applied in October). Does anyone know when I should be getting a response?

My son was not offered a spring 2021 spot, just the options I listed, He is OOS if that matters and applying to Katz

We heard back within a couple of weeks after submitting mid year, but Pitt’s official time frame is 4-6 weeks after you submit.

Any parents worried about Pittsburgh bad air quality? lead in the water ? And cancer rates in the Allegheny county?

I actually have a question:
My junior DD is interesting in CS. I wonder that Pitt has a great CS program? Anyone can help me? Thanks

@Lika2028
Lifelong resident. The air quality is really not bad and the cancer rates I think you are referring to are from a community much further south in Allegheny County than Oakland.

Does Pitt mail the acceptance packet? Can I get the acceptance packet even if I don’t commit to Pitt?

I know that the Honors College is sending out regular decisions by March 1st. Did anyone get accepted yet?

my daughter is currently taking 6 ap classes her senior year. she currently has a D in calc ab. if she got a’s in 5 ap classes and got a D in one, would she be rescinded? as a side note, she got into honors.
