Did they send out an e-mail about it? We did not get one.
I called
S19 had amazing research jobs and internship… but he did it ALL on his own. He had little to no help from the pre-health resource center and yes he contacted and met with them several times.
He graduated with a 4.0 in 2 degrees and aced the MCAT. I’m not worried at all about him getting accepted to med school.
Yes, my daughter’s roommate is a Chancellor’s scholarship recipient and just got a 99%tile on the MCAT (in his junior year).
so you mean Pitt pre-health advising does not really live up to the hype. My student is not pre-med but definitely a pre-health for sure (currently is pre-PT). At least it will make us feel better if we need to give up Pitt at the end.
Thanks for the update. Do you know if they communicate only to Chancellor Scholar invitees? ie. If your student doesn’t hear anything by Friday night, just assume no invite is coming? Asking as emails are few and far between so guessing it’s another keep an eye on your portal and if nothing is there, assume you aren’t invited
Advising is fine after you declare a major. Like most large state universities, the first generic advisor you are assigned freshman year might not be the best, if in a liberal arts track like Dietrich. My daughter has found many amazing health-related opportunities in her time at Pitt.
I can’t speak to specific majors like nursing, PT, etc.
Hopefully someone in this thread will get a chancellors invite and share with the rest of us! Do we know if they come just in an email, or is it in the portal, too? I usually rely on these forums for announcing the latest updates (vs emails from Pitt ) Thank you all! My d24 only checks portals once a week or so.
According to the website it says that only those who are invited to interview for Chancellor’s get a notification. https://admissions.pitt.edu/faq/what-is-the-selection-process-timeline-for-the-chancellors-scholarship/
Hopefully the process described here is still correct it’s just the timing of the events that are delayed. Good luck everyone!
I’m not 1000% sure. Just going based off the info I got from the AO. I believe it is only sent to those 50 people being interviewed.
Yes! They said they will be updating the website, as they were unaware of the incorrect date information.
Opportunties are numerous obviously bc of the mecca of healthcare facilities at Pitt. My S19 had to search them out himself, they were not given to him by the pre-health resource center. Look at it like this, they are not a place where labs and jobs are posted etc. It’s basically like advising you that you need to do a-b-c. But honestly, my S19 knew he had to work in a lab, get an internship etc bc he follows a lot of medical school related reddit posts. This has been his experience, I honestly cannot speak about anything but.
Thanks for sharing the experience. That’s something I worry about too. While in our home state or hometown, I have more resources to help him or connections to get him to the right person. When going OOS, we will need to rely on school advising or resource at least posting the related information for them to search. Now I understand why some people got attracted to the schools with co-ops build in because school will help to connect or provide information for students to apply.
Pitt does have a guaranteed internship program. We learned about it on one of our tours prior to my daughter matriculating. I am not sure about the specifics because my sophomore hasn’t done it (and has had good internships without), but it’s something to investigate:
Thanks. That looks interesting.
In Jan we were requested to submit a mid-year transcript. Which was submitted in Feb. and now got a waitlisted email. When does Pitt decide for waitlisted kids? TIA
Pitt is just like any other school for waitlist, you could hear anytime between now and early August. Best to assume it is a rejection and be pleasantly surprised if an acceptance comes later.
Last year 8,248 students were offered a place on the waitlist and 768 were admitted (9%).
Anyone hear about Chancellor’s yet?
Haven’t heard or read anything about people receiving Chancellors invitations yet. I expect those who will receive them will hear tonight or tomorrow. They seem to release letters to the document center around 7pm.
Per 23-24 Common Data Set. 8248 offered a place on the waitlist, 3811 accepted a place on the waitlist, 768 admitted. About 20%.
Students will hear by June 1.
