Thank you! The access to internships is the biggest selling point right now. She loved everything this weekend from admitted students day except the idea of living in a “city”. Guess she’ll need to sit with this a little and make a decision. We love everything Pitt has to offer and think it’s great for everyone to have an opportunity at city living, for many reasons.
Kids love Pitt. The campus is manageable. But where it is most different is the amount of green space, greek life and the football tailgates.
South Oakland is mostly student housing. So, it is kind of like a college town. You do have the ability to go to other neighborhoods by e bike or bus. My son did that before the new rec center opended.
Can you elaborate on this?
Less green space? Less greek life? And how are the football tailgates different? I know they’re probably smaller than at PSU, but do the teams still get good crowds? I think the less green space could be an issue for my kid, but she’d definitely prefer less greek life.
I guess it’s all relative (we live in a bigger city than Pittsburgh), but I thought there was a ton of green space in the area, just not a classic quad. The campus backs up against Schenley Park, which is huge (450 acres), and Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens (which is free to Pitt students).
Daughter just received acceptance letter - Dietrich College of Arts & Sciences.
OOS; 3.6UW; 4.62W; 34 ACT Superscore
H2P!
When did she submit her application?
Application was finalized in the portal 10/17 and acceptance on 11/12.
OOS application complete 10/14 and received acceptance today 11/17!
I love that Pitt offers a rolling admissions process! My daughter submitted her application on 10/10 and received her acceptance on 11/17. OOS 4.2W GPA TO
Pitt is definitely a city school and much different than Penn State. There is a park next to it but there isn’t much green space on campus. My kid loves it.
My daugher was accepted on 11/7 and just got merit aid today! Still waiting to hear about honors college for her. Her twin brother delayed submitting his test scores, so he is till waiting to hear about his acceptance, merit, and honors. My daughter was accepted to Arts and Sci and my son is applying to business. Do they admit by school? I’m wondering how much longer to hear back for my son.
The wait time for admission and merit can vary a lot, and this doesn’t necessarily predict outcomes (that is, even if it takes longer, the student might still end up with a good merit award, etc). The wait time can differ even for students with similar stats and within the same school or college.
Congratulations for your daughter and best of luck for your son! ![]()
I know not today, but what does the portal say when a decision is made? Instead of pending or awaiting decision it says ____?
My son’s application was complete on portal 10/23 and I guess he could hear in the next few weeks since it’s been 4 weeks.
He has a 3.7 wGPA and TO to Rehabilitation Science OOS, so low chances. It’s a reach for him. Great school and potential a great fit for him (city, sports, distance from home) so I would love him to have this option even though I think he might be better off at a less competitive place.
Decided.
I’m not sure what it said the first time after C26 went on to find their admission decision, but now the page starts with
“ Welcome back to your portal, C26!
Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Pittsburgh! …..”
And then various stuff and links to the decision letter, admitted student days and some other stuff.
To add to what @SJ2727 said, when there is a decision, a letter will appear in the portal. Warning: if you have access to your child’s portal, DO NOT OPEN THE LETTER. Leave it for them to open, because once someone opens it, it will just turn into a menu item. ![]()
