University of Richmond Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

I just got a new letter in my portal today saying I’m a Richmond Scholar that’s marked February 23rd. It mentions the “Richmond Scholars Snapshot” which is like some all-expenses paid three-day experience at Richmond!

Hi, mom of a Prospective Scholar! I have a few questions

  1. Does attending Richmond Scholar Snapshot (campus visit with all costs covered) mean my child commits to attending University of Richmond?

  2. In case after participating in the Snapshot event, there’re future incidents, which prevent my child from attending Richmond, will there be any implications, such as paying back all the expenses for the event?

Good morning! My daughter was also named a Richmond Scholar and plans to attend the Snapshot weekend. The event is meant to get them excited about Richmond and encourage them to accept. The wording in the letter was quite specific that the purpose of the event was to get students excited about attending. However, if your student has no intention of accepting the offer obviously they shouldn’t attend (more for moral reasons). The whole purpose is to increase their yield on the awards offered. They assume that Richmond scholars have other great offers because they are all exceptional applicants. And they will not ask for the money back if your student chooses to attend another school. RE your second question, any school can rescind an offer of enrollment or merit if a student doesn’t graduate, falls below a certain GPA, or has disciplinary action taken against them. Hope that helps!

For those deferred in EA, does anyone have guidance from admissions on if they are receptive to a LOCI?

The website says:
“Do not email us weekly. Contact us only if a new detail emerged since applying that changes a fundamental element of your application (e.g. an added or dropped class).”

Also says not to send new LOR but doesnt specifically mention a LOCI.

Dont want to ignore their instructions but also dont want to miss an opportunity to show them we care. My child has a few regular-course updates but nothing fundamental.
Maybe it is too late anyway?

We were advised by guidance counselor to send a LOCI to regional AO. Just sent it - don’t think its too late.

Thank you

Our GC had eluded to Richmond being overwhelmed with female applicants this year and the school needing a balanced class. Just FYI as it seems a lot of qualified females had been deferred.

My daughter’s counselor said Richmond is a much harder admit for girls.

Interesting. We were fairly certain that our DD would get in EA but she was deferred. I know that Richmond is hard to get into, but I was certain she checked all the boxes. But now it does make sense. Does this mean that any merit scholarship is out the door if she is fortunate to be accepted?

They have given out all Richmond Scholar awards (full ride incl. housing/dining) for this class, but they may still offer Presidential Scholar awards (1/3 tuition)- not sure.
