Thank you! I would also like to know my GRE score is 286 so where do I think I have more chances of admission?

I am really not that familiar with graduate programs. I just asked the financial question since costs usually limit the schools you need to target. The cost of living in the San Diego area will be expensive, so I would do more research on other programs that may be more reasonable.

ohh… okay thanks for the info though

If you have no financial constraints, definitely Univ. of San Diego. You will have personalized attention at a private school. It’s very hard to get classes at SDSU which is not the case at all for USD. Also, USD is better academically than SDSU.

Both universities are wonderful universities, and from what I’ve seen/heard, their MFT programs are excellent and well-respected in the greater San Diego community. You shouldn’t have any problem getting graduate classes at SDSU. This is a Master of Science 2-year intensive program. Your classes are predetermined, and you are grouped in a 30-person cohort. Your class schedule is already decided for you. http://go.sdsu.edu/education/marriage-and-family-therapy/program-information.aspx. From those I have known in the program, they are a very close group and work closely with their professors and instructors.

The campuses are both beautiful, but each one has a different “feel” to it. You just need to find one that feels the best for you. SDSU, a public university, has about 34000 students while USD, a private university, has around 8200. SDSU has a transit center on campus with an underground trolley and various bus lines. Both have active and involved students and strong and devoted alumni. And, undergrad-wise, in the last 15 years, per SDSU, their average incoming freshman CSU GPA has risen from a 3.18 to a 3.85, so both schools have academically strong students.

One difference between the two programs is that SDSU’s is strictly a full-time program while USD’s program can be taken full-time or part-time.

I’v attended both universities. Both are good.

I’ve worked closely with the SDSU students. They have an advantage in that their program has a good number of professors who specialize in certain areas of MFT (i.e. early childhood, etc). So the students have access to a variety of caseloads. It depends on your income. Everything is full fee for both schools.
