Hi my S25 is in the same boat, but applied regular decision. Accepted to Penn state Smeal.
How did you figure out what her SC gpa was? Or was it on her portal?
Add us to the same boat. We got into Penn State for Smeal but deferred for South Carolina. Daughter seems to prefer Penn State but USC would be a serious consideration if he’s got in. We are in Atlanta too so a heck of a lot easier to get to.
Someone in an earlier post suggested googling the South Carolina uniform grading scale calculator. We used that to estimate her SC GPA equivalent.
When I used that my daughters SC GPA was 4.6. My daughter emailed her admissions counselor about the grading scale and this was the reply “We utilize a weighted 5.0 GPA when reviewing applications, and the recalculation will occur once your application is submitted. Core classes will include maths, sciences, English courses, etc. that students have taken.” Using this scale the GPA went down to a 4.3. I’m not 100% sure we weighted everything correctly but 4.6 seemed really inflated to us so we are going with the 4.3.
It was certainly confusing. We came up with a 4.59 for my son.
Thank you
Anybody else got a SCHC package in the mail today?
Same boat here. In at 9 schools including PSU and OSU business. Hoping for a positive outcome when RD is announced. What back up major did you choose? We went Sports Mgmt to choose a different college in case DM was not an option.
Random question - DS has recently been very interested in pre law (was doing finance as major.) Should we consider changing his major? I don’t know anything about pre law does anyone have insight as to if USC would provide a good pre law education?
If his intentions are to go to law school, not sure that a pre law degree matters. My son went to a state school, majored in history and economics. Then worked for a law firm for a year, and then applied and got into a T-12 law school. More about grades, and how they do on the LSATS. Just my experience.
Law Schools don’t really care about majors. I am a former law school professor, and law school involves a lot of reading, analysis, and writing, so majors that involve a lot of reading and writing tend to be good preparation. However, for getting into law school, GPA and LSAT score are the most important factors.
My son currently is in the Darla Moore business school, and also thinks he might end up going to law school. While I don’t think that finance is necessary the best preparation for law school, I think it is an excellent major for life and for the practice of law, and too many lawyers lack strong business knowledge.
So, I certainly don’t think your son needs to change his major unless he wants to
100% BS not even comparable! PERIOD.
What is the expected decision release date for deferred students?
Mid-march
Thank you, wondered if any trickle out. One date is best!
Has anyone received top scholar invites?
I am assuming no more invites for honors will be going out. They said latest mid February. We received our agenda for admitted students day and in our agenda their was no honors college presentation so assuming by now we would have heard since others with Honors mentioned that it was on their agenda.
Well it’s not mid February yet and if you applied to honors and completed everything by the priority deadline you will receive a decision one way or the other. The honors reception is the evening before the Saturday ASDs. That’s how it was last (several) year(s). Last year received HC decision on Feb 15. Email sent to student and parent to check the portal for an “update”
Yes, Top Scholars just came out an hour ago
