What are my chances of getting into University of Texas at Austin as a freshman?
Zero, even in state kids would not get in with your stats. UT Austin is HIGHLY competitive
is their published SAT score range for OOS, they do NOT super score and there range includes recruited athletes
@3scoutsmom - that’s kind of cold…I mean, you really have no idea about this candidates EC’s or anything to say “zero”. Remember…these are just “kids” and although his/her chances may be minimal…there’s always a chance.
@SgtFaur2015 not cold just honest. If OP wanted his ECs to be condsidered when asking for a “chance me” thread they should have mentioned them.
Highly disagree with this, college admissions are not like the lottery. They are looking at multiple factors and many have minimum cut off based on test scores, just becasue you apply doesn’t mean you have “a chance.”
So do you think it better to just not reply and give the OP no answer or give them an honest answer backed up by facts? Keep in mind I was the only person that bothered to reply to this thread at all. In your response you didn’t address the OP question at all, so what you honestly think OP chances are of getting into UT as a freshman and why?
UT has very few spots for unhooked OOS applicants. It’s a public university dedicated to the best students in Texas. Once the top 7% instate students have been admitted, few spots are left, and they primarily go to Texas academic admits, ie., kids from competitive high schools with high SATs and tons of APs, then UT completes its Freshman class with the students it needs, especially athletes, then it adds a few international students for its global standing and on campus cultural diversity, as well as OOS academic superstars.
There’s simply no way a student with a 3.86 weighted and 1290 gets into accounting. (McCombs is one of the most competitive colleges to get into).
@alexkayon : your stats would get you into Barrett at ASU, as well as several WUE colleges.
I got into the Weber Honors College at SDSU so I think I’m fine, thanks.
These are good stats but UT is extremely competitive for OOS. Your chances of getting into UT OOS are only slightly higher than your chances at HYPS.
It is out of reach unless you are recruited.
Big-time exaggeration. The admissions difficulty at UT OOS is not on par with the ivies and elites, let alone HYPS. I agree that OP doesn’t have the stats for it but the comparison is really far-fetched.
Does anyone know how much legacy can help an OOS applicant?
Legacy (“relation with alumnus”) is not considered at UT Austin, according to https://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=788
