University of Texas @ Austin, easiest major to get into?

What is the easiest school in UT to get into, i know Liberal Arts is good, but what in Liberal Arts, i also heard GeoSciences was easy? Help anyone?

Geosciences is found in the Jackson School of Geosciences. Degrees offered
include
B.S. Option I: General Geology
B.S. Option II: Geophysics
B.S. Option III: Hydrogeology/Environmental Geology
B.S. Option IV: Teaching
B.S. in Geosystems Engineering and Hydrogeology
and
B.A. in Geological Sciences

If you search this forum for the word geosciences over the past year, you will find posts that say that geosciences is a good area to specify (that there are not a lot of geoscience applicants) but that your application should give some credible sign that you are actually interested in geosciences: projects you have done or programs you have attended.

If by any chance you are interested in Hindi/Urdu studies, I heard last summer that the College of Liberal Arts South Asia Institute might be looking to find more students interested in Hindi/Urdu. I believe the major you would list would be B.A. in Asian Cultures and Languages. Again, your application should give some credible sign that you are actually interested in Hindi/Urdu: projects you have done or programs you have attended. It would be useful to contact the program or go sit in on a class.

I really don’t think it is fair to specify a major you have absolutely no intention of working on just to get in. You should specify something that is at least somewhat interesting to you and give it a fair try.

You severely underestimate the desire that people have to get into UT.

I’d second foxshox.
I would do almost anything to get into UT. = /

My son actually wants to study geosciences. It’s a shame that people are lying and perhaps taking a spot that could go to a kid who really wants to be there.

Easiest major? Gotta be Plan II.

HA! :p

any other easy majors? being serious here. UT is my dream school!

They will put you into liberal arts undeclared if they feel you should be in UT but not in any particular school. Pick a major you really want first, then maybe an easy one second.

Can’t agree more.

Are there any other easy majors except Geosciences and and Plan 2? I heard Natural Science is easy to get into, is this true?

Although I doubt anyone would be stealing any spots, as a current geoscience student, it kind of ****es me off also that people do this with our school.

I’m not from Texas but I take it UT is usually the dream school in for most Texans.

My wife and I are Ivy League graduates from New York City and we are thrilled that our son has chosen to be a Longhorn in the Class of 2012!

Yeah most Texans want their kids to go to A&M or Texas pretty badly.

Are you being serious that you think Plan 2 is easy to get into? Natural Science accepts the most people.

How difficult is it to get into the Arabic Flagship program? My daughter’s thinking about majoring in psychology and Arabic, and this would let her do both. She’s starting junior year and taking first year Arabic at a local college so as a freshman she’ll have 2 years finished.
Top 2%
GPA 3.8 unweighted, 4.1 weighted
ACT 29 (32 English, 35 Reading, 23 Math, 27 Science), doesn’t want to retake but this is with no prep
AP’s Human Geography 5, Psychology 5, World History 4
ECs cross country, drill team, Spanish club & honor society

Unfortunately, we’re out of state so that will make it harder.
Thanks!

It was a joke about Plan II, it’s one of the most competitive majors to get into andrew16398

haha! thus the “HA!” and the :p

I read in UT documentation I found on line that when UT looks at the ACT instead of the SAT they look just at English and Math and convert these two to SAT scores. Great class rank, great grades, but it might be worth a retake of the ACT to get the math score up. We too have heard UT is hard for out of state students to get into.

I think that once your daughter is accepted to UT, she will be admitted to the Arabic Flagship Program; you have to be accepted to UT first, though. Any major.

MidwestMom - thanks for letting me know how UT converts the ACT. D should retake and try the SAT too, now that SAT has the score choice option after March. D has some real problems with math though… I PM’d you…

Between Natural Sciences and Libera Arts, which school is less competitive to get into?
