University of Texas, Austin Honors College

If I apply to the Honors College at University of Texas, Austin and get rejected, would I still be able to get accepted to the regular school?

UT-Austin has Honors Programs… not colleges. First you would have to be accepted into the university, and then the college for your major, and finally there are Honors Programs for certain colleges within the university. So, you would be completely able to get accepted to one of the colleges within the university. If you’re accepted to the university but none of the colleges/major you’d applied for, then you’'d end up the in General Studies. So, to answer your question, yes, kind of

Which honors program did you apply to and get rejected? Also do you mind posting your stats? They say their decision has no bearing on the admissions decision for regular admission to UT,but if anyone who has been rejected by an honors program, but admitted to UT could comment that would be great!

My Longhorn son got into McCombs last year, but not into BHP. His stats were 33 ACT, 3.78 GPA, Top 3%, In state.

Any non-auto admits get in? If so can you share your stats? My son goes to a small private college prep and got a 33 Act, 1420 SAT (Cr+ m) 3.91 GPA but won’t be top 7% because oF the competitiveness of his school.

We’re in state btw

I ended up not applying for the Honors program as it was due on the 1st with my regular application and I didn’t have enough time/didn’t know how it worked.
I have a 3.64 gpa, 28 act, my school is also really competitive so I’m probably not in the top percent. I am also an out of state student. I don’t think I would have gotten in, however, I would have tried since it would not have affected me getting into the General Studies program.

Thanks for all the replies!

If it helps I was accepted to the Liberal Arts Honors where I will study Economics. My GPA is a 4.0 (Un-weighted) and a 5.52 ish (weighted) and my SAT was a 2020 with a 1420 in CR + Math. That might be a gauge into what it takes but i’m still not sure. Other factors could be that I am Hispanic or that I do lots of extra-curricular activities. Hope this helps out.
