University of Toledo

I’m getting ready to come off of active duty in the Navy and have been exploring a number of schools. The University of Toledo is only of the ones that I’ve been considering which I learned about from a fellow service member who is from the area. I was looking, however, for any input from current/former students of UT about what the student life is like there? I know the best way to get to know a school would be to visit but I’m currently on deployment and although I will be home in a few short months I won’t have time to visit any schools before attending if I wish to do so during the upcoming Fall semester. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your service to our country! I don’t know anyone attending, but I’ve visited it several times with several kids over the years. I believe it is underrated, perhaps because Ohio has so many other good colleges and universities. It is not ranked as particularly competitive. Frankly, I really liked the school. The new dorms are beautiful, and I like the stone buildings. The administration was very friendly and helpful.

I’d expect the school to continue to become more competitive, especially now that it has acquired a medical school. It’s law school is solidly in the third tier, as a best-value school. It also has a pharmacy school. A real plus for Toledo students is that the pharmacy school only accepts applicants from its own university.

The greek houses are set apart but are on campus. Parking appears to be an issue, and I admit I did get a parking ticket! The athletic facilities are great, especially the pool.

It’s not just the administration that is friendly. Of all of the schools we visited, Toledo students went out of their way to offer directions and offer to answer questions for us.

Toledo is generous with scholarship money, and is very open about scholarship availability on their web site. You can plug in your grades and SATs and get an estimate of your award on their web site.

As another negative in addition to the lower ranking, there isn’t much right around the campus - no stores, bars, restaurants, etc.

There are some very good web sites for videos of schools, which might help while you’re deployed. We’re not able to suggest them here, but you can probably find them by surfing the web.

Again, thank you for your service. Stay safe!
