Allegedly someone posted on Zeemee that it’s being released next week. Claimed it was from UW staff but I don’t have the app.
There was a post on reddit this past week that admissions told them it would be next week, between the 10th and 15th.
If it doesn’t drop tonight, we revert back to Thursday 3/13 at 8:10 pm as the betting favorite.
Does anyone know the OOS acceptance rates for Pre-Major vs. Direct Admit for Foster? I’ve been trying to find information but haven’t had much luck.
I’m not sure you’ll find an exact % for that. They don’t disclose everything and it gets a bit complicated too.
It’s much more difficult to get direct admit into Foster vs. just getting into UW pre-major. One of my kids is in Foster now so we’ve been through some of this. If I had to guess, I’d put the number in the 15-20% admit range for direct admit to Foster, maybe lower. Also depends on how constrained the school is at the given quarter, which would vary somewhat. Overall out-of-state admit rate is closer to double that. After you’re at UW, it’s about 40% acceptance range if you apply before your junior year. Hope that helps!
Thank you! I assume being out-of-state also impacts direct admission, or does it not make much of a difference?
OOS direct admit may be nearly the same as in-state, given the significantly lower yield.
I’ve heard the last couple of years DA to Foster has been under 10%.
I suspect being oos would be even more challenging, yes. Most competitive state universities seem to give preference to in-state students with the highest value degrees (from a job market perspective anyway). CS would likely be one of the most extreme examples.
You can get in later even if you aren’t direct admitted though, but again it’s competitive amongst a fairly academically strong group. That’s part of the reason the degree has such value though!
BTW, admit to Foster is a little bit nuanced. From my understanding there are following pathways:-
- Direct admit to foster: highly competitive, very few among those admitted to Foster who selected Business as first choice.
- Pre-business admit to foster: less competitive than DA, but still very competitive. You then need to meet a certain GPA requirement to be admitted to Foster, but no competition. You still need to select business as first choice
- Standard Admit: for those admitted as another pre-major like pre-Econ. Need to meet GPA requirements and also apply for admission where acceptance rate is about 40% or less.
Is number 2 real? I’ve never heard of it at UW. Is this 2 truths and a lie?
Kidding - but I’ve honestly never heard of that and don’t understand how that would work with UW Seattle. GPA is a relatively small weight for Foster too - would be a strange deviation.
Yeah, not sure about #2. But we may be entering the weeds on this one. Good grades are very important for admission to Foster once you get to UW. Stay 3.8+ (UW grades) and you have a good shot.
One more comment in here and everyone will be rushing to check their portals!!
There’s a LOT of community college non-curved grades in that number. Would be interesting to know how Foster rates UW curved classes vs community college linear grading in those numbers. Relatively very few prospective Foster standard admits not taking the pre-app courses at CC.
Admittedly, I’m not sure either..lol..
I presumed that based off the following:-
From someone I was speaking with a while back, had mentioned that of all the students Foster admits as freshmen, very few are admitted as direct (confirmed to foster), rest as pre-foster/business (which means they take all the same courses (like in case of Kelley), but have to meet certain GPA requirement by the end of sophomore year, but no application needed).
Rest, anyone in UW can apply for Foster through standard admit application after meeting course/GPA requirements.
I could be totally hallucinating on the #2.. lol
My son’s experience w/ Foster (business school) admissions- yes, it seems like the majority of Foster students are not directly admitted as freshmen. Grades are very important in admissions (and that writing test). Much less of the “holistic” game being played. Yes, some students take prereq’s at cc’s. Foster doesn’t seem to differentiate grades from cc’s in any way at all.
Obviously this is getting pretty Foster specific, but a lot of students definitely want in!
Thank you guys for all the info! I was directly admitted to Purdue Daniels and IU Kelley, but UW is still by far my top choice. I’m trying to decide whether I would still attend if I don’t get into Foster. As for #2, this is the first I’m hearing of it—I hope you aren’t hallucinating! I’ll look into it more.
Lots of Foster yes but also some downtime until a likely Thursday results release.
Whatever you are taking, I want some.
There is no “pre-business” maintain a GPA. There is also no take the “same courses.” concept like Kelley. Foster undergrad is not the immersive business experience like Kelley or Ross etc… It’s 72 (I think) credits which is just under 5 quarters. You have another 110 credits outside Foster for the other 6-7 quarters. Of that 72, 19 are intro pre-reqs, another 37 are a course in a number of specializations and then you take 16 (1 quarter) in a specialty area. Meaning your frosh/soph year direct or standard admit will be a few pre-reqs and a lot of general ed courses typically. And junior senior year a lot of Foster with usually a junior winter abroad where you might or might not take biz classes.
Kelley as a comparison has a year of ICore (your freshman taking same classes example), a year of major, a year of pre-reqs and just under 1 semester of general courses - you’ll see the general University only rarely.
It’s a top-secret formula of sleep deprivation and sheer delusion. Side effects may include questionable life choices.
They seem to have changed the portal. Can anyone else trigger confetti by typing celebrate() in the console tab in inspect element?
yes it works. no clue otherwise what it means. ![]()
