University of Washington Vs. Penn State Vs. Syracuse U!!!

Sorry guys I know there are already a few posts about it … but those were all pretty old so I thought I’ll start a new one.

So my situation:

Overseas American Citizen, Asian ethnicity, and OOS for both public schools.

UWash Seattle - Pre Social Sciences, Economics

Penn State UPark - Division of Undergraduate Studies (Undecided)

Syracuse U - School of Public Policy

Want to study something related to Human Geography and/or Economics and I’m thinking about Public Policy/ Urban Studies/Political Science, and am most probably staying in the USA after college. Right now, I’m seriously considering going to UWash because I think I like the urban setting over the rural setting of Penn State. I’m not sure I want to go into a sorority, so I’m a bit concerned that 95% of students at UWash are part of a sorority/fraternity. My impression is that all sororities do crazy things …

UWash and Syracuse U are both highly ranked in the subjects that I want to do … at the Graduate Level, and the logic goes that if the subject is good at the grad level, then its good at the undergrad level as well, but I’m not sure. The reason I’m not going outright for Syracuse (Syracuse is No.1 for grad school Public Policy according to US News) is that it is a small school and not highly ranked overall, so if I decide that i don’t want to do Public Policy, then I wouldn’t really have many other choices, unlike at UWash/Penn State.

Sorry i’m really confused! Just put all your thoughts in the comments.

I also got into UMinnesota & UPepperdine, but im not considering these schools.

Many thanks.

UoW for sure. I have similar backgrounds to you.

Its more like 10% of students not 95 so you have nothing to worry about.

My favorite of the schools is Penn State, but if I were coming from Asia, my choice would be UWash hands down. DIstance and travel time, plus the city of Seattle would be the reasons.

There are many more Asians at UW than at PSU or Syracuse. If that is important to you, then you should come here.

If you are coming from OOS, then Syracuse should be the most affordable to your family though. So if that’s a consideration then Syracuse is a fine school.

Also, I would imagine that for your chosen major there would be a plethora of internship opportunities in nearby NYC.

As for academics, UW and PSU are similarly ranked, but Syracuse isn’t far behind and they’re not a small school at all. The city is about halfway between the University-in-a-Village feeling of PSU and UW being set in a waterfront park in a city of 600,000.

Also, if you can’t deal with a bitter, freezing cold then you should attend UW as the other two have bitterly cold winters.

Definitely choose between UW or PennState. Read up more on the areas and see which one you like better. But yeah, whether a good or a bad thing, UW has way more Asians.
