If last year is a guide, I see multiple posts in the EA thread where Business students got acceptance and Direct Admit on same day at end of January.
In my master spreadsheet, which I used to try and keep track of college related information and deadlines, I have that business admissions are part of university admissions. Unfortunately, I didnât put a citation in that particular box, so I donât remember where I learned that information. And I canât remember if Wisconsin was one of the schools that required (or allowed) an applicant to list a second major, so that if you donât get into business, maybe they would slot you into Econ.
I do know that Wisconsin has a path to get into the business program once you are there. I donât know that it sounded easy, but my memory is, it wasnât impossible. (At least a couple kids from S24âs school last year went to Wisconsin pre-business.) Unlike University of Illinois, which basically told us if you donât get in business directly, donât try to come and switch in. There is no pre-business there. (U of I says the same thing to computer science kids looking for a back door.)
We know someone who was admitted last year to the School of Business but did NOT get direct admit with original decision. It was a couple months later and an email was received with the direct admit news.
In regards to a path if not directly admitted there are a couple but it is VERY âhardâ or should I say a very selective process at Madison. But it is possible if not âinâ right away. I hope this helps
My understanding based on past cycles is that it is direct admit (or defer to RD or reject) to the school of choice. BUT it is possible to be accepted as pre-business into L&S.
They have used more deferrals for EA the last few years to better control yield. In particular for OOS applicants.
wow - wow!!! direct admit to Kelley, congrats!
Thanks everyone!
When will EA decisions be released?
âOn or before January 31stâ is what the admissions website says
Last year it was the last Friday of January (27th)
So probably sometime between Jan 26th and 31st this year
IMO, go for computer science as major and data science as minor (this is what I suggested to my son). I am only recruiting DS positions with PhD in statistics.
Best,
AW
My son applied for CS, in state, GPA: 4.0 UW, ACT: 32 (Math 35, English 31), 2 APs and 13 dual enrollment classes: Calc 1 & 2 & 3, Diff. Eq., CS OOP1 & OOP2, CS Computer Architecture, and CS Data Structure (completed cs programming certificate 2022), Bio 1 & 2, Chem 1 & 2, English 1. IT internship 1.5 years. 150+ volunteer hr. Black belt. Some awards.
I just looked up my sonâs acceptance letter dated Dec. 15, 2017, and it began âOn behalf of the Committee on Admissions, it is my pleasure to offer you admission directly to the Wisconsin School of Business.â
So 6 years ago the admissions letter included the pre-admit, and it sure was nice having a decision mid-December.
Good luck.
Thoughts for Wisconsin?
OOS private high school in the northeast
Biology major
4.0 unweighted GPA (not sure weighted)
IB diploma candidate, 4 HLâs, 2 SLâs (most kids at our school take 3 HLâs)
APâs not offered, but took AP calc AB exam scored a 5
1480 SAT
Excellent ECâs/impactful leadership
No data on SCOIR for past studentsâ results
Thanks!
Based on our SCOIR, Iâd say close to 100%. The only majors I wouldnât be sure of are CS and engineering.
Parent of a current Freshmen here - who loves UW by the way!!! Last year very few OOS students were admitted at the end January. Most in our area were deferred, or flat out rejected at this time. My DD got deferred until spring and received her acceptance the first week of May. She was given a week to commit. During orientation EVERYONE we met from OOS was admitted off the waitlist. Moral of the story, please be patient if you receive a deferral.
OOS (CA) DS24 thanks for that intel⊠love this community of suffering soulsâŠreminds me of years in the militaryâŠlooking out for one another⊠miss thatâŠgood luck all!
My daughters acceptance letter included direct admit into the Business school last year.
Two questions for UW Madison people in the knowâŠinitially D24 wasnât going to apply because she doesnât meet their ârecommendedâ 4 years of math (sheâs taking AP stats senior year, which they explicitly say they donât count as math). We decided to throw a RD app in anyways because she loves the school. SoâŠ
- Anyone know of kids accepted without pre-calc? (Sheâs poli sci)
- Is there a big preference for ea? Wondering if she even has a shot since she is now RD round, plus OOS. Managing expectations.
Thanks!
same here sort of⊠OOS DS24 is taking Stats this year, no CalcâŠbut applied anywayâŠbusiness school, Supply Chain Mgt. Apply to U of Oregon?..good luck!
Good luck to you, too. No Oregon for us, sheâs going midwest or northeast âŠ
And mine got in the dorms for sophomore year. Thereâs still housing and plans to build new housing.
