does anyone know if UW looks at senior year first semester grades? my son is applying RD, but we couldn’t find the RD thread.
Wisconsin is our top choice, should he update his application with a significant accomplishment from the fall that landed after he submitted his application? Guess the question is if this accomplishment is right kind to update on, really…
He was captain of his HS soccer team and led them to a state championship which was completely unexpected. The accomplishment is the story: commitment to attitude, empowering underclassmen, team spirit flipped their success in a year. This group of young men just decided they were going to have the best year ever and it was going to be fun for everyone with no power dynamics. They were a surprise for the conference, region, and state…that’s the story, accomplishment.
I know it’s appropriate to update admissions with a significant honor, so unsure if this measures up. My son is on the fence saying maybe we should just trust the process and plan. I know how competitive Wisconsin is…not a familiar choice to most of our people here in south, all of his peers chose SEC schools, but my family and friends in the northeast have shared their admissions stories. (my take - it can’t hurt…his take is humble and trust, LOL he may be wiser than me.)
I would not send as update - the more important fact is that he participates on a varsity sport vs the teams success.
He didn’t send, but ended up calling Admissions to connect with a counselor and maybe create a little rapport - lay his chips out that it’s #1, they wouldn’t give him an assigned Admissions Counselor. Said 68k apps this year…send any questions to general email and good luck (very kindly btw…); just seems all schools this year have elevated numbers.
They’ve already received 68,000 apps? And RD isn’t til January. Gulp.
My son is a freshman at UW Madison. He applied EA last year as a poli sci major. He had 4 years of math but only because an 8th grade class counted. He took AP Comp Sci senior year, no math or stats.
Hi there. My son is a freshman at UW Madison. He applied EA last year as a poli sci major. He had 4 years of math but only because an 8th grade class counted. He took AP Comp Sci senior year, no math or stats.
Thank you! We can hold out hope. Other than that my daughters application seems really strong. The more we look at Madison the more we love it
My son is an OOS freshman (deferred on EA). I can confirm that the last Friday of January was the day last year. It was also EA for Michigan, Texas, Illinois, Maryland and several others those few days. They came out one right after the other. That day really sucks by the way.
S24, OOS has applied to Madison under EA and it is his top choice. It is a long shot for him though, so we are keeping our fingers crossed. S20 is currently a senior there and we absolutely love the college.
How long did it take to get access to UW portal? Submitted it Saturday, it was downloaded from common app but nothing yet.just want to know if this is normal, some schools are faster than others
For us it was 2 days. Caveat --that was end of October.
I’m an admittedly anxious, tea-leaf reading mom and UW is my oldest sons #1 choice BY FAR.
I was reading through the 2023 threads for UW, and often people were able to log into the University Housing portal prior to official acceptance and it was a possible tell.
What does everyone else see when you use your NetID to log in here:
TBH I think historically when people did see variations/changes in the portal, it was much closer to the release date. Not sure anything this far out would mean much, but I get the stress
Login to StarRez Portal failed. Reason: Login error. Please try again.
Got the same
Are you clicking on “New incoming undergraduate students”?
I am, yes.
We went thru this last year. This is what my son got. (“Login to StarRez Portal failed.”). Son was accepted and is a freshman home on break at the moment. ; )
