University of Wisconsin Early Action Fall 2024 Admissions

Wow, I would have thought they would be, at minimum, deferred.

Sorry to hear. Fine student. Will obviously have great options.

Ahhh from the other thread. Yes u have fine options already. The academic gaps on the science and math side will be in play at some schools.

I’m gathering. It’s ok. We are at a “huh, that’s weird” shrug and move on stage - but I took at peek at Naviance for her HS today and they do not love our school. Very high stat kids, no acceptances. Just weirdly out of line with their CDS info.

I called out that gap initially I described it as a tennis player running away from the backhand and only using forehand.

I can’t speak to other students at school but many had raised concerns on the other thread. When one doesn’t get in they tend to justify but this was foreseeable.

Just being honest.

That said - on the other thread @blossom just gave you great advice.

I know Pitt was one acceptance and there are others. These aren’t safeties.

They (Pitt for sure, I don’t remember the others) are schools with some of the best and brightest students in America.

You’re only going to one.

Plus you needed some aid. Your budget is $40k so Wisconsin saying no saves you the discomfort of not choosing them anyway. They are out of budget with near zero chance to get to $40k.

Honestly - forgetting Pitt is in state, reputation wise it’s substitutional to Wisconsin.

Wherever your kid ends up - they’ve won.

Labels of admissibility no longer matter.

She should be proud at her admits and now find the one that fits best.

Can you tell me about looking at Naviance for the HS? I’d love to see how our school fared.

My daughter’s HS uses Naviance I believe, and I can sign in through a link at the HS, using her school email. It’s garbage data though, truly, because scatterplots show WAY more applicants than bar graphs, which makes me believe it’s an aggregate over all time (and also doesn’t show the difference between ED and RD). But still, it’s something and helpful to see that NO ONE has been admitted or that LOTS have been admitted.

Did everyone get the invite to apply for Honors? What is the chance of getting it?

Nope! For which major?

Computer science. DS not excited about more essays
cant blame him.

My daughter applied EA and was deferred. She was accepted to her other top choice school and will be going there, so she went into the UW portal last night to retract her application. Since she last looked at it, when she was deferred, the portal has changed. It now says Welcome Badger! And it has options for her to enroll, choose classes, etc. Has this happened to anyone else? There is nowhere for her to retract her application. It’s as if she has been accepted – without them telling her? And, she did not supply her midterm grades because she had already decided on the other school. So odd

It definitely didn’t happen for my son. Did she receive any follow-up email? Are you able to post a screenshot (with personal information redacted) to the forum? Can she gift her spot to my kid?

I told my son about your experience, but he is in no hurry to check. He submitted his grades from his previous term last week and his status had not changed then - he does not think there is any chance it has changed since then

That said, as soon as I look the other way, I expect he will drive for his laptop . . . .

I hope your child loves the other college. Congratulations on having this phase of the drama behind you

P.S. We checked - still deferred. But it was a fun thought to think that the deferral might have magically changed into an acceptance. Maybe next month . . . .

Same. No updates.

Did anyone get snail mail acceptance? Most schools have sent a formal letter with stickers or some other swag??

Yes - just received over the weekend.

Did anyone reach out to their local reps during the process? We were told to do so but now they don’t have their emails on their websites (just the names) and Wisconsin said they are moving away from regional reps and to email the main email and could be routed. Just curious as my daughter wad deferred
