Have 2015 students all gotten Unloading Permits already? D hasn’t figured out how to get one, and she hasn’t yet gotten a response to the e-mail she sent to undergraduate housing.

Any tips would be welcomed.

You can sign up for them – D did so yesterday. Then they’re going to send an email closer to dorm opening date as to how to download it.

So, do you need tips in signing up? (I’ll ask D what she did) or in getting the physical permit.

Mom – have her check the email that told her her housing contract was ready. There should be a link to how to get passes there.

She claims she never got that e-mail, but I’ll have her go back and double check. THANKS!!

Assuming she finds it, and she get some choice of what time of day she prefers to unload, are there benefits to unloading earlier or later?

Did she sign her housing contract yet???

When my D signed us up for a parking slot yesterday, the earliest time they had was Noon. So, let’s just talk about all the fantastic advantages to unloading later!!!

You get to sleep late
You get to enjoy your breakfast
The people who help you unload your car (if there are any) will be experienced

… Depending on where you’re staying, you can walk the stuff over early and get the advantages of moving in early too.

I’m sure there are lots of other great advantages. All the cool parents sign up late you know!!!

@zephyr15 – Clearly all of the really cool people also sign their housing contracts late (speaking for my truly-cool D). ;-D

MomCares - does your daughter know her roommate yet? She should try to coordinate with her as to move in time - meaning that the two shouldn’t be moving in at the same time - the rooms are not big enough to handle that. They should, however, meet in the morning to look at their room and decide on the configuration so that any bunking/unbunking of beds or movement of furniture can be done before personal items are moved in as it’s much easier that way. Depending on your “official” move-in time, this will also allow you to see anything you might want to run out to buy earlier in the day. There are plenty of people to help with the move in, especially carrying things up the stairs. It’s a big party and loads of fun, enjoy!

@amtc - Great suggestions, thanks! Yes, D knows who her roommate is, but I don’t think they’ve spoken much yet.

We’re trying to let D be in charge of all of this, but so far she doesn’t seem to be taking much initiative. My bet is that as she’s seeing her friends starting to leave for school she’s getting cold feet. Ah well, live and learn, right?

@MomCares

All of our kids are Cool, aren’t they. But then again, I was probably Cool when I was that age too!!

amtc – that’s a great idea, I’ll ask my Cool D to coordinate with her roomie, if we’re going to be unloading late, we might as well arrange the furniture early. Thanx.

Hi Mom Cares! Here is the link to sign up for an unloading permit in case you can’t find it. Hope your D is getting excited–mine is!

@lindsay claire – Greetings! Can you believe Wildcat Welcome is finally approaching? Thanks for the link!

D hasn’t really started getting excited yet, though she’s at a local NU gathering today so maybe that will get her going. She’s had a too-exciting summer, plus she got her last-choice dorm situation so she’s been a bit less enthusiastic lately than what we were expecting. I’m guessing she’s also getting more nervous about leaving home as she’s watching her friends start to go.

Plus we’re just so much fun to live with that she knows she can’t do much better (hahaha!).
