Unsatisfying Phone Conversations with Your Kids

Me: Omigod, you won’t believe who showed up as a surprise performer at the Billy Joel concert last night! It was incredible! Everybody went nuts! I got to sing along with the person! It was the experience of a lifetime! Guess! Guess!

Teenage Daughter: Umm… Rihanna??

Me: No…Paul McCartney…never mind.

LMAO! Kids. Harumph. Youth is wasted on the young.

As a high school student myself, I firmly believe that Paul McCartney totally trumps Rihanna!

Hey, I’m impressed at who showed up. :)

Me too!

10 char

Hey I WAS THERE !!! OMG - the most awesome concert ever !! I took my d for her 18th bday - I told her she’ll probably never see a concert as good as that ever again !!

The crowd was awesome - Loge Section 9 - You Rock !!

I thought the the title of the thread pretty much described **all ** the phone conversations with my kid.
:D

IMs seem to work better for him

Hey - and not just Paul McCartney - Tony Bennett, Garth Brooks, Steven Tyler and Roger Daltrey !!!

I’m jealous. They should have also brought out the 1969 Mets, though.

Where was this concert at and on how on earth did I miss it?!

Here’s a hint: Paul also performed there (with three other guys) in 1965.

Wow! Wish I was there!!!

Rihanna — LOL that’s hilarious, especially since I’m sure she was totally serious.

A woman who was there last night, and at the '65 concert, was interviewed in the article I read today.

I thought this thread was going to be about all those conversations where they’ll talk to you about inconsequential things, but clam up when you ask impertinent questions like how’s the coursework going or have you finished that big paper yet.

I thought this thread was going to be about the kind of phone conversations I have with my D as she is walking from one activity to another and arrives at her destination and “gotta go”, etc. On the run, as they say.

Anyway, I feel dumb as I have never heard of Rihanna.

My 15 year old son thinks The Beatles walk on water, and Rihanna well I can’t say what he calls her on CC!

My 21 year old was there and says the concert could not have been any better. He can’t stop talking about it.

Sir Paul was given an honorary degree at my daughter’s graduation in May. I hadn’t looked in the program yet when she called me to squeal, “Guess who just walked right past me?” He just about eclipsed the entire graduation. It was nice to see my kid graduate and all, but as my husband said, “I never thought I’d be this close to Paul McCartney in this lifetime.” It was a really fun surprise.

I soooo wanted to go to this concert. It was Billy Joel’s last concert at Shea Statium last Fri night. I had just arrived in NY the night b4 to take care of things for my dad and read about the concert in the NYT. AAAGGHHH!! They had a follow-up article in the Times about a woman who went to the Beatles first concert in Shea (she still had her ticket stub- I think it cost her $6.70 or something like that. This ticket cost her $300). I went to the opening day of Shea stadium when I was in the 5th grade. The superintendant of schools sat right behind us. I was sure I was going to get arrested for playing hookey! But alas, they are tearing down both Yankee and Shea stadiums this year… the blow to loss of my childhood might have been lessened if I’d have been able to get to that Billy Joel concert!! LOL.

I’m 23 and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of Rihanna.

I like Billy Joel and Paul McCartney (well, his stuff with the Beatles), but my dream concert would be R.E.M and Pearl Jam together, I think.
