Currently, I’m attending Pomona College and it doesn’t seem to be the best fit for me. Although it’s a great school, I find that it is very, very liberal (at least to me ) and there is only a very small and not very committed Christian community on campus. Now that I think of it now, I would have liked to attend a school that has a bigger Christian presence and is generally more conservative. Any thoughts on cal poly slo? I also don’t know if it’s worth it for me to be spending full tuition at pomona when I could be going to a state school and have a better time (my friend goes to cal poly and really enjoys it) Please… anything would help
Are you afraid if you stay you’ll become more educated and realize against your previous pre-dispositions that it’s better to be more liberal after all? (jk)
If you want to transfer, go for it. But if you’re saying you want a school that is more conservative and religiously/ideologically based, you’d be better off at a private christian school, otherwise you can pretty much guarantee that you’ll be faced with a large liberal presence wherever you are (in California, at least).
Cal Poly SLO is liberal. Where did you get the idea that it is conservative?
Try Pepperdine, Chapman, Pt. Loma Nazarene, Loyola Marymount, USD for the Christian privates.
@nhcoolpenguin - Cal Poly SLO has a strong Christian organization called CRU which is large and very active in the community and among SLO students. Many students have formed strong friendships from within that group. I’ve attached a few links, however if you have questions contact the organization. They’ll be able to answer your questions.
As far as Cal Poly being liberal….my son attends Cal Poly SLO and feels it’s conservative.

OP, my D is a freshman at Pomona also. Yes it is very liberal and there is a strong and tediously PC culture. It is also a top school that tons of kids would love to get admitted to (#1 on Forbes and #4 on USNWR LAC’s). Maybe it’s not right for you and you should transfer. Only you can figure that out. But I think you should ask yourself whether it’s really the wrong school or whether you are feeling normal freshman feelings of doubt, anxiety, homesickness, etc. If so then seek help. As Dean Feldblum said at orientation, it’s okay not to be okay. Help is available. Talk to your sponsors or ask for an appointment at Monsour.
Another option is to look for the conservatives at the 5C’s. They are there. (Even Pitzer is rumored to have a few.) Maybe volunteer to write for the Claremont Independent. http://claremontindependent.com/ I’m sure you’d meet plenty of fellow conservatives that way. If you don’t want to write for them, just message them and I’ll bet they’ll be happy to help you meet others. Take a class spring semester at CMC. I know there is a group called the Pomona-Pitzer Christian Fellowship, too. Maybe that’s what you’re referencing when you say they’re small and not very committed?
Good luck whatever you decide.
I would mention, and you’re probably already aware of this, but all the schools mentioned, are a step down academically–some a couple steps down.
