Unsure.

Wellll. For one I’m a sophmore in high school and I know that I’m early and I don’t need to know this yet but I like to plan and decide things early because then when it’s time. I know exactly what to do. I just can’t decide where I’m going to go! Okay. Stats.

Currently:

Sex:Female

GPA:4.0 but I’m only a sophmore

current major(might change but I doubt it): Astrophysics

I’m in drama club, book club, band (jazz, marching, and concert), and choir.

In band I play the French horn, trumpet, mellophone and can kind of play the piano. I know where all the notes are and can plunk them out. I sing soprano.

I want to study abroad.

I don’t know what I want in a college first of all. I don’t really care if it’s small town or big city. I don’t want to be in anger of hurricanes or earthquakes so nix California and southern states like Florida. I don’t want to go anywhere in Tornado alley either.

I want somewhere safe.

I live in Micigan. U of M doesn’t have an astrophysics program and Michigan State isn’t very selective.

I’d want to go to a college where it’s kind of hard to get into so that it looks good on my application.

So please help me!! i know I’m early and that this is reallllllllllllly long. But thanks for reading it and answering!!

It’s hard to help you find specific schools without a more detailed description of what you want. Instead of thinking about specific schools, you might want to think more about the kind of college you want. Do you want a small, big, or medium school? A liberal arts college or a research university? Do you want sororities and fraternities? Do you want a school with good sports teams? You say you’re interested in astrophysics. Do you want a tech school or a school with a broader range of classes and majors? Are there any programs or extracurriculars you want to continue in college? Thinking about the type of school you want will help you narrow down the options and help us give you better suggestions.

I’m not athletic at all. lol. I think I’d want a medium school. One where I can still go to the professors for help when I need it but there are many different people. i don’t ned any extracurriculars really. Except for the study abroad thing and I didn’t even know they had research universities but I’ll look into it. Thanks!

Small colleges that are not in your danger zones:
Haverford (Philadelphia area)
Reed (Portland)
Carleton (Minnesota boondocks)
Harvey Mudd (LA area)
Wellesley (Boston area, women only)

Universities:
Johns Hopkins
University of Chicago
Princeton
Harvard

Carnegie Mellon:
Check out the astrophysics department:
[Astrophysics and Cosmology - Dept of Physics - Carnegie Mellon University](http://www.cmu.edu/physics/research/astrophysics/)
But you will need SAT or ACT scores before you can know where you should look.
