Hi!
I’m new to college confidential so I’m kind of finding my way around. I was just wondering, what is a weighted and unweighted GPA? How are they calculated? I appreciate any help given and thank you in advance!

Hi! Welcome to College Confidential! Your unweighted GPA is your GPA with no extra weight added on for Honors, AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment courses. So, if you get a C in a class, that C will be factored into your unweighted GPA. Whereas with a weighted GPA, for any higher level course you take, you can either get an extra .5 or even 1.0 factored into your GPA. So, say you took a Dual Enrollment course and got a C; they would bump that C up to a B, being that it is a higher level course, and that B would be factored into your weighted GPA.
It sounds complicated, but it really isn’t.
Did that make any sense? Haha. Hopefully I helped!
