UoC and teacher recommendations: unclear on website?

Hi. In the UoC website, they mention no specifics as to WHICH subjects should the teachers giving you the recommendations teach. However, a few people also applying have told me, and it was also mentioned in some UoC admissions blog, that they required the recs to come from a maths/science teacher and an english/ humanities teacher. Which is true? The problem is that I have a recommendation from an English teacher and an Economics teacher, and I don’t want to sacrifice either of them, because the english one is strong, and because Economics is my potential major.

Until about ten weeks ago, they wanted one from an English or history teacher, and one from a math or science teacher. Then they changed their policy (under new management), and now they want two from any academic subjects. “Academic subjects” apparently do not include studio art or beginning foreign language. But English and economics will be just fine.

That’s awesome, thank you for the clarification!

Man i wish i knew that for early action!!!

I had the same problem. I emailed my admission counselor, and they informed me that UChicago’s policy changed.
