UofM Merit Scholarships?

Does anyone know if UofM gives out any merit based scholarships? It’s difficult to find information on their website? Thanks.

Which U of M?

University of Michigan Ann Arbor

Which school within UMich are you applying to? They do have many merit scholarships, large and small ones, but only offer to ~2% of admitted students (they admit ~14k students each year for ~6000 seats). Are you from in state or out of state? The amounts are different between CoE and LSA, and obviously for in state and OOS. If it does not change this year, the typical large scholarship in CoE is $8000/yr for in state and $20k for OOS. For LSA, it is $5k-$10k for in state and $10k-$20k for OOS. There are some bigger ones that are near full tuition to full ride too but that would be for only ~0.1% of admitted students. Nevertheless, they do offer need based grants too if you are eligible.
In addition to those for freshmen that I mentioned above, there are many departmental scholarships for sophomore or above. Nevertheless, most of these have a need component.

I am in-state and will be appyling to LSA. I have a 4.3, good test scores, sports and extracurriculars so I think I could compete for that top 2%. The information they have on their website regarding costs is:
Resident (LSA freshman/sophomore): $14,402
Resident (LSA junior/senior): $16,218

That is only for the tuition part and the numbers you have are outdated. The upperclassmen tuition rate kicks in once you have 55 credits before the next semester. My D started paying upperclassmen rate in the first semester of sophomore year.
For GPA calculation, do unweighted without subgrade with a maximum of 4.0. Typically, they have 20% or slightly more enrolled students with GPA 4.0 in high school (i.e. no grade lower than A- in all 4 years). For my D’s class, it was 21%. It should be even higher now as the average admitted GPA went up 0.02 from 3 years ago. For test score, you may compare yours with the mid 50 range (ACT 30-34, SAT 1440-1570). Top 2% means near perfect score.

This is just anecdotal information but both of my kids were admitted to UM, in state from a top HS in the state. They both had excellent academic records- uw gpa close to 4.0, ACT 34-35, top students in their respective classes. They both were awarded a $1500 one time scholarship, the UM Regents Merit Scholarhip, given to top graduates of HS in MI. I know of other students who have received the same. That seems to be their standard merit award for high achieving in state students.

Yes, the Regent scholarships are awarded to the top 1100 or so in state freshmen (approximately 1/3). It is not renewable. So I am not even counting that one. My D got the Engineering Scholarship of Honor with GPA 4.0, ACT 35 plus 800 in a couple SAT subject tests. The Regent Scholarship, the Michigan competitive Scholarship, and the UM school Scholarship are all stackable.
