Up -- what a wonderful movie!

Our family went to see the new Pixar film “Up” yesterday – it was wonderful – sweet, sad, funny, moving, incredible detail and animation, and a great story. Probably the most enjoyable film we’ve seen in several years. It apparently opened the 2009 Cannes Film festival – the first animated film ever to do so. It was just such a genuine and touching film. If you read more about it, the work that went into getting characters and setting just right were amazing. Another triumph for Pixar. I hope it does well – a an animated film with a senior citizen hero is an unlikely box office hit.

My kids went today…they came home beaming as well - and said all you did, touching, funny, sad - they might have to go again and take me with them!

I saw it last night too with my daughter and thought it was great. It is unusual to have a senior citizen as the main character and it was touching and I had tears (unusual for an animated flick). It is creative too.

I thought it was absolutely wonderful, but I have to say I never expected to cry so much at a family/kids movie!

I do hope it does well. It’s a great accomplishment.

Yep, I talked with a young woman today who said she cried through 90% of it.

Saving it til the 12th when D is home for her 21st; we’ll see it in 3D - did any of you get to enjoy the 3D version?

We saw it in 2-D. It was so good I almost feel like 3-D would be a distraction --the movie doesn’t need it. But I’ll see it again when my son gets home from college, and if he wants to see the 3-D version, I’ll try itthen.

I was curious why my college son and his friends went to see an animated movie last night. Now I know!

Oh no, I already cry too easily at movies!

S2 (HS Jr.) saw it last night with some friends, and said it was really good, though also sad. We’re going tonight and bringing my 85-year-old mother. Will bring some hankies.

and P.S. - to anyone interested, Toy Store 3 is scheduled for release next summer. It’s about time! We all think Toy Story 2 is one of the best movies ever made :)

I saw it in 3D, and it was not a distraction at all. It’s not in 3D in the sense of “omg stuff’s jumping out of the screen”, though that does happen a few times. I found that the 3D made it look like it was made in really high definition, and I think it actaully improved the animation. I was pleseantly surprised.

Our plan was to go see it Saturday nite after the kids left for prom…but, the hosts fed all the parents too… and so we ended up staying too late to make a movie…

I am so glad it is a satisfying movie…I am looking forward to it…

I saw it in 3D. The 3D of animation is not as campy as the 3D of live action – it’s merely adding depth and perspective. There’s none of the “oh gosh the dog’s jumping right at my face!” because it just doesn’t need it.

My daughter and her boyfriend went to see it in 3D and said it was very good - she was also in tears at parts of it. She though my husband and I would really like it. Not sure I can fit it in before I leave to visit my Mum and brother in the UK though.

thanks for the recommendation- I think I will go see it.

I admit- I have never seen Toy Story et al. because I was *so *tired of taking my older daughter to see the kids films when she was young- Strawberry Shortcake and all the various Disney princesses without mothers , that I did not want to see one more single thing directed at children no matter how good everyone said it was.
.
( watching All Dogs go to Heaven everyday when youngest needed it will do that to you)

We loved it also. If you are dog lovers, you will really enjoy this movie. The promos for the movie do not do it justice. The 3-D was amazing.
