Upcoming Will Ferrell/Amy Poehler comedy on finding money for college tuition

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4481514/ The movie “The House”. (Here is the trailer - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P3Qp1Vls4og) is a comedy about opening a casino own their basement to make the $ needed to pay their daughter’s college tuition after they lost their college fund. Time to try to find some humor in this painful process, eh?

Although I think the concept is funny and I do like Amy Polher- I imagine watching the entire movie would be a bit tedious for me.
I guess even Hollywood script writers have to think about paying for college

There have been several movies poking fun at aspects off the college admissions process. Not sure why it is anticipated to be “tedious”, since the plot seems to be moreso about running the underground casino. And in this day and age, I look forward to watching mindless silliness for an hour or two.

You had me at Will Ferrell/Amy Poehler.

well, at least it cannot possibly be as bad as “Soul Man”

Love Amy, can’t stand Will. I think she is more easily dragged down by others than he is lifted by
her comedic skills. I’ll skip this one.

I loved the first scene where they are all about “if you don’t get in, it’s their loss,” then they are going crazy when she does get in.

It looks entertaining from the trailer.

I am also not a big Will Ferrell fan. He seems to find some reason to take his shirt off in many of his movies. That’s an unappealing site. I don’t find his humor particularly funny but I do think the plot of this sounds entertaining enough that maybe my husband and I will go to the theater, he will go see some science fiction or bang bang shoot 'em up movie and I will go see this one

Can’t stand Will Ferrell. There’s just something unfunny about him.

Sounds funny. Unfortunately, I can’t stand Will Ferrell, so it will not be a movie outing for us. Maybe a DVD or Netflix.

I don’t care for Amy Poehler. She and her friend, Tina Fey will forever just remind me of a couple of mean girls.

@jym626 It isn’t personal - movies where the protagonists are breaking the law and doing zany embarrassing things just make me uncomfortable. I am such a rule follower that I can’t enjoy it -even though I know it isn’t real. I know I am in the minority.
So even though I enjoy 30 minutes of Amy Pohler on parks and Rec - 2 hours would push my limits . I wasn’t trying to criticize your tastes.

Thanks for clarifying, @veruca. Your taste sounds similar to my husband. He does not like slapstick or embarrassment humor. He practically hurled at the thought of going to see the wedding crashers. He suffered through bridesmaids. I, on the other hand, walked out of pulp fiction, refused to watch three kings after about the first five minutes, and will not go to any other violent movies.

D and her bucknell-alum friends are all excited since the fictional school “Buckley” is a knockoff of Bucknell. On the admissions letter in the trailer, the address is the real address for Bucknell admissions! And the t-shirt is exact same as a Bucknell design. And…Of course…The Bison…hehe

I love both Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler … growing up with 4 brothers, I have a rather “manly” sense of humor at times. I am so looking forward to this movie. My meme of Tina Fey saying, “If you’re old enough to apply for grad school, you are too old for your mom to be calling me” has prompted lots of laughs from my grad students. I hope there is a great new meme to add from this new movie!

I will do my best to find out the Bucknell connection. Unless they just thought the Bison mascot was worth it for the jokes.

In the trailer link above, pay attention in the beginning when the admissions letter is opened. In the top right is an address…1 Dent drive, Lewisburg, PA. It’s even the real phone number.

Or are you saying you will try and find out why they made that connection? That would be cool to know.

@JustaMom5465 I meant that I would try to figure out why they used Bucknell as the fake college  I know a guy who knows a girl . . .

Its definitely Bucknell. Same city, state, admissions phone number, mascot, colors, etc. if you find the connection surfcity, let me know. My D2 Bucknell alum would probably be very interested. She was the first to show me the trailer.

@morrismm Well there is this guy, who is an alum and won an Oscar and has worked on Will Ferrell movies: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Westenhofer

Bucknell was aware of the movie for some time apparently. I am guessing that perhaps this Westenhofer guy suggested the name and they thought it would be a better name than picking an obvious Ivy league name?
