Update I guess...

This is basically a small update from my previous thread found here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/953922-chance-me-recommend-more-colleges.html

I’ll just copy/paste most of the stuff over. The thing that’s changed the most are my schools.

Probably still majoring in engineering.

Asian male from New Jersey.
Going into senior year with a 94.05 weighted GPA (we do whole % here, not based off the 4.0 scale).
Something like a 90.8 or something unweighted GPA (I don’t remember, I lost the sheet).
Unknown class rank (they don’t release it publicly), though probably low top 10%.
Class size: 450ish.
SAT: 2230 superscore: 600 CR / 800 M / 800 W first time, 630 CR / 770 M / 700 W second time. Retaking in October for CR.
SAT II: 800 Math 2, 800 Chem, 730 Bio E.

Took 5 AP classes so far (1 in sophomore year, 4 in junior year, 4 upcoming in senior year though 6 tests):
Chem: 5 (sophomore year)
Calc AB: 5
Comp Sci A: 5
Bio: 4
US History: 4
Taking AP Econ (Both Micro + Macro included), Stat, Physics C (Taking both C related exams), and Calc BC next year. (Dropped AP Spanish due to scheduling conflicts)

Extracurriculars (this area still sucks):
Robotics since freshman year, continuing into senior year (hopefully will get strat captain). Won Regional Engineering Inspirational Award freshman year and Regional Chairman’s Award junior year (both with team)
MSEA since sophomore year into junior year, but club was disbanded due to budget issues.
Academic League since junior year continuing into senior year. Won 1st place with the team.

Volunteer service: 50 hours at local hospital, 15 hours at a separate CACS thing.

List of colleges:
Rutgers
Lehigh
Tufts (potential ED)
Brandeis
Carnegie Mellon
UIUC

Maybe apply to 1 more. Also willing to think about other majors (math, comp sci, etc).

Bump (middle of 2nd page).

FYI… Brandeis does not offer engineering.

I know that, but my mom wants me to apply there anyway.

What’s the point if you can’t study what you want there?
If you get in, you’re only taking a spot away from someone who wants to go there.

Colleges don’t have a “quota” or a “limit” of students that they can’t have more than, so it’s not like I’m really “taking” a spot from someone else.

Besides, I’m still choosing a major, it’s just that I’m leaning towards engineering. My mind’s still open.

Of course you are.
For everybody that gets in, there are multiple students who wanted to but got rejected. If you want to study Engineering as an undergrad, there is no point in applying to Brandeis.

Well instead of constantly thinking your way, why don’t you do me a favor and recommend other colleges instead of trying to prove to me that I’m wrong and that applying to Brandeis is a waste of my time.

soze is right you should really be more courteous to other applicants and really put your time into more engineering based schools

Woah there supermarth, calm down! Why not - MIT, or Olin - there are plenty of great engineering colleges out there…

Ok
Case Western
WUSTL
Rose Hullman
Cornell
