Hi,

my son just received 1q grades and they were best ever. would it help his chances to send an update letter?

tia,

Hmm, that’s a good question. I couldn’t find the info anywhere on the site. I would check with his guidance counselor, because it should probably come from them if they are submitted. My son’s applying ED also! Good luck!

Don’t the schools send them out automatically? My son’s school does.

Yes JoBenny I think you’re right…pretty sure our HS does too. Looks like Wes only asks for the mid year though? I understand that one reason for getting bumped to ED 2 is to see how the grades and/or testing play out. I’d definitely check with his counselor, quietdesperation, cause it could help.

I’d be very surprised if a school automatically sends QUARTER grades where (as is typical) the school is on the semester system. Theses are “pencil grades,” they don’t count. Schools automatically will send the semester grades. However, if the quarter grades are that good, maybe you do want to send them. I would definitely ask the school counselor.

i didn’t state my question correctly, the school has already sent them. My question was really about whether we want to create a touchpoint with an adcom at this time by sending an update letter. although it’s only been two weeks since the app was sent, he has 3-4 interesting updates including the grades.

so the question is, will a touchpoint help him or, since the adcoms are so busy now, will they be annoyed with a mini-update.

pickwick, our school is on a quarter basis, there is no notion of a semester.

Now I understand; but I don’t know the answer… I suspect that just sending the grades is more than enough, but honestly I’m just guessing. S’s school was on semester so there was no notion of sending quarter grades – His semester did not end till after the ED notification deadline for ED for him was all based on grades before senior year. Best of luck.

I am sure it’s 3 p.m tomorrow because the hyperlink on my mac link to the calendar and it says 3 p.m. Good luck everybody!
