Update: Longaberger Basket Building Gets New Life

We had a thread on Longaberger baskets and the building but when I searched for it, looks like it was closed (don’t really know why!)

Anyway, thought I’d share that the basket shaped building has a new owner - a microbrewery!

Might finally get some men into liking basket weave now too!

You did notice the April Fool’s Banner above the article, right? I’m not sure that article is legit until you read more about the purchase on later dates.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: The forum is now automatically closing threads that haven’t had any activity in six months. This will eliminate a LOT of work for the moderating team - people were constantly reviving very old threads that we would have to close when people reported them.

Looks like the building is facing foreclosure, at least as of September.

Totally didn’t. Totally embarrassed!

I thought it seemed like an ok use of the building!!! I mean, what else are they going to do with it?!

Not really clear if this is legit or not…so…never mind!!!

Bummer. It would have been so perfect for the building. Basket Case Ale or IPA would have been their signature brew.

It seems like a very interesting building but it owes 6 figures in back taxes! It has locally-sourced wood and is adorable.

Seriously, if it weren’t for the staggering unpaid tax and a huge assessed value, someone like this local co could have put it to a good use by converting the megabasket into a mixed hotel/pub/microbrewery deal. Like this old school building downtown here:

@BunsenBurner Well, I love the McMenamin brothers and all they’ve dome – so quirky too – in Portland and thereabouts. But they are almost akin to a theme park of renovating old buildings and making them funky restaurants and lodging. They are one of a kind, PNWerns, and it would be fun to see something like this at Longaberger, but, I wouldn’t hold out hope.

I agree that it would make a great hotel or mixed use place. If the govt ends up owning it due to unpaid taxes, I guess it will become govt offices, maybe, or housing?

I know! Wishful thinking.
