It was wonderful. I was silly to be so worried. These are dear friends who would never judge us, just happy to be getting together. I made prime rib, roasted asparagus, mashed potatoes, yeast rolls (store bought) and one couple brought desert and another brought salad. Several bottles of wine were consumed and quite a bit of beer. 
They stayed until 1:30 in the morning! I had no idea it had gotten so late! Such a good time and I was worried for absolutely nothing. And besides, after that first glass of wine, who worries anyway, right?
That said, this is the first time I’ve ever made prime rib. It turned out amazing. They raved.
