Update to stanford

Hi guys! Will I be able to send stanford an update on some things? For example: I made all district band and I will be going to Asia over the summer on a missions team(missionary work is something I wrote about a lot on my application) thanks! :)

Probably not. Remember the section from the Stanford Admission Overview:

"Supplementary credentials are strongly discouraged........"

from: Freshman Requirements & Process : Stanford University

^ that refers to submitting lengthy, unnecessary documents outside of those in the common app/supplement, and even then they'll allow you the "additional info" part of the common app for absolutely critical details or explanations. of course you can update—just fax or call them. but keep it short and to the point.

I sent them an update letter as I was waiting for REA. I highly recommend it if you have something valuable to add to your app, which it sounds like you do! You can also use it as an opportunity to confirm your scheduled classes for this semester. Make it look nice and formal, and sign at the bottom :)

Just use good judgement when you're sending in things. You'd be amazed how many wacky things come in the office mail!... I don't know any Stanford stories, but Harvard regularly gets presents, baked cookies and even animals - never a good thing for the candidate. :)

Is there a deadline for Stanford RD?

Stanford admissions has received all kinds of crazy unsolicited things from applicants over the years, including deliveries of Stanford-themed baked stuff, artwork and other items, singing telegrams, people showing up to do skits or musical performances depicting their love for Stanford, petitions with tons of signatures from people pleading for the applicant's admission, etc. etc. This is one of the main reasons they now ask people to refrain from "updates" unless it's something really extraordinary. The other main reason is just that they are already incredibly swamped with things they have to review by the deadline.
