If all this kerfuffle has been about saving her the embarrassment of having to give details of abdominal or bowel surgery, I guess it just shows how far we have to go when it comes to destigmatizing health issues, and particularly women’s health issues. I sincerely hope she makes a full recovery and then somehow gets a chance to speak for herself and reclaim her own story, so to speak.
And this:
Although a colostomy reversal is usually a smaller procedure than the initial colostomy operation, it still takes several weeks to recover and return to normal activities.
His actual words didn’t reference or even imply any link to the photo fiasco. Jumping to that conclusion is a stretch, imho.
I’ve used those exact words before - “My wife’s the arty one” because she really is the arty one and I suck at art. And she hasn’t even made any photo editing gaffes.
The British press and commentators were going after Meghan even before the wedding. There was very little non-hate-filled runway. They were definitely treated very differently in the press.
Again I agree…that’s why I included “if he was indeed mocking”. I don’t believe his remark was a dig directed at Kate. I give William the benefit of the doubt, because I wasn’t present. I shared the article because it was an example for the two points I made in my previous post.
Her timing is very odd! At least let Kate be found before starting a new ventire. Supposedly by easter we should have some answers. And what is with that name? What is it supposed to mean?
@MAmom111 Hold on. According to Royal sources Kate is smiling and upbeat.
Even with the photoshopped alterations of Kate and the children she appears to look alright…yes, smiling and upbeat. So why should that affect Harry and Meghan plans?
I think Kensington Palace must fix the mistakes of their own making.
Anyway, there may be a reason they chose yesterday to make an announcement.
There is also a video, so one didn’t need to be present to see and hear what he said. There is no way it could even be implied that he was making a dig. Every spouse on earth has commented on that in some regard. The only reason it’s sort of yikes is the photo fiasco.
I don’t know what to think after reading that In Style article. Very spinny.
Most of us have “roles” in a relationship—one is “arty,” one is “repairer,” one is nurturer, one is analytic, etc. Acknowledging the differences among us tries to make us more human and relatable and doesn’t have to be a “dig” in any way for someone different.
Why on earth should Meghan live her life around Kate’s schedule?
I mentioned this in the Meghan bashing thread. Santa Barbara is often called the American Riviera. I’m not sure why they chose orchard, but many businesses in the area already use American Riviera in their name so they may have been limited in options.
Either way, just like we moved away from discussing trees, I think we should direct comments/concerns about Meghan’s venture to the other thread.
I didn’t see any video but good to know. I’m glad I chose to accept it as a self deprecating comment.
And yes, the In Style article seems very “spinny”. It’s actually the kind of article that many would accept as the truth without questioning the message before this photo debacle.
Per the People magazine article, Meghan’s announcement comes 4 years after their “freedom flight” as coined by Harry from Vancouver to California.
I’m really rolling the eyes over the freedom flight comment. Escaping the perils of Canada on the private plane and into the 15 million dollar home.
Any chance we could keep this thread focused on Kate?
Or at least Louis and his missing tooth!
“Kategate” term is cute…
I’m not sure what the Royal family can do at this point. I wonder what the state of the monarchy will be like in 5 years…let alone next month.
As the linked article in the previous post stated, the late Queen understood that the role of the monarchy was largely symbolic. The monarchy has a challenging road ahead…a lot is at stake.
The Queen had issues with her husband, sister, family throughout her reign. The 60’s were not kind to The House of Windsor. The 90’s worse.
I think all will be fine.
I kinda can’t believe I am commenting on this but I guess I’ll join the bandwagon. I may be gullible, but I believed all along that Kate had some sort of surgery and that the statement from the get go was she would not be out in public due to recovery until after Easter, and indeed that is the situtation as it has unfolded. I do believe she is entitled to privacy around her personal health. Given all the speculation, they can opt to ignore it or I suppose she could make an oral recording thanking people or some such to help quell it. So, part of me still believes the story they put out.
However, due to so much speculation, and that there was no announcement of a planned medical leave before it happened, and it seemed sudden in the public’s view, PERHAPS her health crisis is of the mental health variety, which they needed to allow time for being out of the public eye. As well, even ordinary people find it challenging to publicly acknowledge mental health issues and I would think as a royal, that likely would not be something they would divulge. So, perhaps her health issue is of that variety and not being seen or heard publicly until she is healthy is the way to go.
I may be naive, but I don’t believe the affair story or the baby story. I think it would be hard to pull that off with all the scrunity they are under and constant surveillance. Plus, at least publicly, they come across as being devoted to one another and their family (I know public personas are not everything). I just have trouble buying that rumor.
