I just have a couple of questions about updating some information on my college applications.
My father is our primary source of income of our household (makes about 2x my mother) and was laid off from his job yesterday.
I was wondering if I should update this information in my college applications and whether it would change anything about my admissions process (chances, financial aid, etc.)
The only schools I have applied to are UC (University of California) Schools and University of Washington.
I’m also wondering if I am able to update my FAFSA to see if I can get some financial aid.
FAFSA does give you the opportunity to make corrections, so check out this link for more information: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/next-steps/correct-update. On there, they say, “You should speak to the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend if there will be a significant change in your or your parent’s income for the present year or if your family has other circumstances that cannot be reported on the FAFSA form” so I’m not sure if they allow you to make changes regarding unemployment. Definitely do contact the financial aid offices for the schools that you have applied to, and they will give you more detailed instructions on how to proceed. Depending on the college, it will likely change your financial aid. As for whether it will change your chances, I don’t think it will be factored in too much since it has no influence on your application that was already submitted. Good luck!
