As long as there is an alum willing to interview, they interview as many as possible. My D went on a tour/visit of the school prior to applying and also had an alum interview.
Had my interview at a local coffee shop two days ago. We just had a typical college interview discussion that lasted about 45 minutes.
Does anyone know when Penn releases decisions? Is it on “Ivy Day”? Also, any truth to the rumors about “likely admit” emails being sent?
March 26
My S also had an in-person interview in a coffee shop this week, in a European city. It sounded like a pleasant 45 mn to an hour exchange , with typical questions from the Alumni and time for S to ask questions as well.
My D had a very similar experience at Starbucks. Relaxed environment, but there certainly were typical interview questions and follow up questions. Actually started asking questions while they were waiting for their drinks. Seemed to make it more casual. The follow up questions made it more like a conversation, rather than a laundry list of scripted questions.
Where did you hear rumors about likely letters?
If you look at last years CC threads, in late February some non-athletes received likely letters.
Still waiting on an interview call here.
I just found out that Penn recommends its engineering applicants to take the Physics Subject SAT. I took Math 2/Chem/Lit but not Physics, is that going to be held against me?
re: likely letters
Found this with a google search. Looks like it was written a few of years ago, but it’s still on the alumni site, so may still be relevant…

So,
- very limited # of students get a likely letter,
- go out around 1st week of March.
There’s also a sample letter at the link.
@OverseasFather got my interview request today, wait you may get soon.
@maglor1 I don’t think it will matter much, if you have nearly perfect score in chemistry
@VinitShah123 I got an 800 in chem so that’s good. I’m getting rejected anyway but at least I can have a bit of hope lol
@maglor1 did you get interview?
Is Penn interview important part of the selection process? Any feedback would be helpful.
@OverseasFather Did you get an interview?
I have havent received an interview till now. Getting worried !!
@VinitShah123 I had a skype interview a week ago
I want to know that do every international student get an interview or is it like Harvard, that only the international students who are being considered for admission get interview?
@maddy09 Nope. No luck yet. Haven’t yet heard from seven schools. Of the seven, MIT yesterday told me that they are all done with interviews. That leaves six more.
