UPenn Class of 2028 Waitlist Thread

Can some one expect to get off waitlist by july …i mean i useally hear people getting of W.L through may and june and i was thinkin if they wanted us they would have sent an email or sth already

At this point, no one should “expect” to get off a waitlist. Is it possible? Yes. Buy very unlikely. Sorry.

If people get offers of admission from the waitlist, that typically happens by the end of June. No one can say with any certainty when Penn will no longer need the option of drawing from its waitlist for fall 2024 admission, however. Based on past practice, it will most likely be by the end of this month. They will send an email to all who remain on the waitlist when they are done.

has anyone heard back from penn?

Called the office of admissions, informed me that decisions will be received by the end of June

do they mean acceptance & rejection?

Both. Penn has followed the same process for years. They end the waitlist process by the end of June. This is public information. It is information shared on this thread.

Everyone still left on the waitlist when they close it out will get an email informing them there will be no further admits off of the waitlist. That means if you did not get an offer of admission, it’s a denial.

In effect, it’s always been a conditional denial for anyone on the waitlist. Penn takes a very small number of applicants from the waitlist. The waitlist is Penn’s version of Purgatory.

bro can you tell in detail what they said…just curious

That’s it. That’s all the person on phone duty is authorized to say. They have no authority or ability to say anything more. They just repeat info that is already public and knowable. They have a script. They do not deviate from it. Do not call Penn and expect them to let you into some special circle of trust where policy is decided.

It’s June 27th. Anticipate an email any moment before July 1 announcing the end of the waitlist offers.

I can be mistaken, but you sound kinda pessimistic. Do you think they will accept no more people off the waitlist and notify only in case the waitlist is closed?

If you’ve been reading the thread, you know the odds of getting off the waitlist. The stats from prior years have been shared. The timeline has been shared, too.

The odds are low. The timeline is near its end.

The odds were low in April and they are low now. Call it pessimism, but it’s just following the data.

No one who accepted a place on Penn’s waitlist should put their life on hold waiting for a spot. You should already be in the process of matriculating elsewhere for fall term.

People assume the waitlist helps them get another shot. But waitlists exist to help colleges fill gaps when they don’t yield a student they expected to enroll. The waitlist ensures Penn won’t have empty seats or beds. Schools like Penn that have very high yield rates don’t need to draw much from the waitlist. That’s the reality.

Penn for some reason releases its waitlist data later than anyone else, so this story in the Daily Pennsylvanian is about the class of 2027 rather than the class of 2028. Still, the number accepted off the waitlist went from 147 for the class of 2026 to 40 for 2027. That’s a pretty huge drop-off, and probably indicative of what happened this year, too. For those interested, here’s the link to the new CDS data: Box. I’ve also pasted a screen grab of the relevant data set here:
