UPenn ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@namijoan I’ve applied to Columbia as well but I definitely second @nikhil99’s comment about the social life and the academic tracks. The only thing keeping me from applying to UChicago is that there are other schools around the same selectivity as UChicago that I love slightly more

@namijoan tbh what isnt there to love about Penn lol… It stuck out to me as the most vibrant school I’ve visited. Besides the top-tier academic programs in various fields, I got the sense that it would be a really fun and enjoyable school to attend. I am totally attracted to the whole Social Ivy reputation that Penn has gotten and the strong+welcoming community vibe that I get from the school. I didn’t feel this at Columbia, where I felt the social aspect of college was lacking. Will be applying to UChicago regular though, haven’t looked into that school too much.

I also applied to Columbia (RD) and UChicago (EA) , though Penn is definitely my first choice (for reasons listed above by others) What other schools are you guys looking at? Aside from the perceived “prestige” of Ivy league schools, I really like WashU as well! The more I learn about it, the more I think of it as an amazing AMAZING school. (Lol this is me trying to think about other schools just so I’m not devastated if I don’t get into Penn)

Hey guys,
Well this has been a crazy ride. Who knew that the most stressful part of all of this would be the four weeks of waiting after our applications were submitted…I just want to say good luck to everyone and I’m hoping that each of us find our school that we end up being ecstatic about, even if that isn’t penn. <3
At least we went for our dreams because you will never know if you don’t try.

It’s crazy that we could be talking to potential classmates right now without even knowing it.

@livelovelol Besides Penn, I’ve applied to Berkeley, UT, and MIT and plan on applying to UChicago and Columbia. I really like schools that have a focus on interdisciplinary studies and good social environment, for both of which UPenn is without rival (in my book at least). Urban environment is also a bonus, idk what it is but the city life draws me in!

@livelovelol Brown, Yale, Columbia, and WashU. I visited WashU and I loved it! Such a beautiful campus, everyone was really nice, and I love their scholarship programs

does anyone here also like liberal arts colleges haha I feel like I have a very open mind about where I go so Im guessing that’s good

@fridaydeathday I didn’t either. I submitted my forms via the online submission thing on the Penn financial aid website.

@2021Hopeful They’ve rejected kids with 36s, 2400s, and 4.0s with stellar and flowing essays. It’s not if you explained who you are as a person, its who you are as a person in general. That’s why Extracurriculars, leadership positions, team-building skills, interesting hobbies all play into that, which frankly is out of anybody’s hands to judge or chance you with since none of us are the admissions officers here. Just stay relaxed, and pray it goes your way.

Because I was reading the results threads from a couple years ago and one guy said he didn’t receive it and he believed that it foreshadowed his rejection.

Isn’t it a soft deadline for FA? I thought they’ll take FA apps until Feb. 15th and then send out FA decisions after RD?

does anyone write poetry, and if so be my friend

Anyone into motor racing?

For those who submitted financial aid forms, if you want to know if they received everything, I suggest calling them up. 215-898-1988 Have your social security number ready. Good luck!

@lcv128, no, for ED, financial aid is not a soft deadline. ED is binding and the only acceptable reason to decline is if the financial aid offer does not meet your needs, which they cannot know without you submitting the finaid forms. The deadline was November 1.

Admissions and financial aid are not evaluated together, like whether you received an email about financial aid or not, doesn’t correlate with your admission decision.

@1150sobremesa me :slight_smile:

I am literally freaking out lol someone help me calm down

I didnt get a financial aid email or anything…but I also did not apply for it. Was i still supposed to get the email even though I didnt apply for it?

Sorry to be talking so much, but does anyone know what a rejection / defer letter says or looks like??? Cant find one anyone?
