UPenn rejected me......twice

I just checked my online decison, and I was rejected as a junior transfer…
The worst part is that this is the SECOND time I applied to UPenn! Two years ago I applied as a freshman and didn’t get in. I did get into WashU, Cornell, etc. But none of them gave me enough money for me to actually go there.
I had pretty good stats I guess:
High School GPA: 4.3/4.0
College GPA: 4.0
SAT I: 1500 (700 Verbal, 800 Math)
Six APs (two 5’s and four 4’s)
Valendictorian
I was recommended by professors who really knew me and tried hard for me

Did anyone else apply to Upenn and also didn’t get in? I guess I should have applied to more universities for transfer, but I’m just so tired and sick of the entire process. I figured I would just apply to the best, and if I don’t get in, I will stay with my current university. I really didn’t think I had a big chance of getting in, but still, I tried really hard with all aspects of the application and I worked hard as a student. It was just sad to see that generic rejection letter on my computer screen, making a mockery of my attempts.

I know I’m gonna be fine. This is no big deal. But I just feel really pathetic right now. :-(

you seem like an excellent candidate. i’m sure you’ll do fine no matter where you go.

Honestly you got into Cornell which is awesome, and Penn might not have given you the bucks either…don’t worry about it, I am sure you will do absolutely well wherever you go.

are u asian? that would explain it.

You’ll be fine. It’s not about the overall quality of the school (though I’m sure it’s fine), but what you accomplish there. I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for all your support! It’s just that the university I am currently attending is very crappy. Graduates placements absolutely suck. None of the big firms recruits on our campus. The only opportunities here are working for small local firms who pay very low wages.
It would have opened a lot of doors for me to attend UPenn. I would kill for that kind of alumni resources and on campus recruitment opportunities.
But oh, well, I guess I just wasn’t good enough for Wharton.

o, you applied to WHARTON, no wonder you didn’t get in!!. Why didn’t you apply to the college and transfer into Wharton???

Why can’t you apply straight to Wharton?

I know how you’re feeling right now because I got rejected from schools too. I’m a high school senior.

Because you can’t transfer into Wharton if you’re a transfer student in another school. The last chance to apply is after your sophomore year.

well, if your transfering into Penn for your sophmore year, can’t u transfer from the College to Wharton at the end of your sophmore year???

I guess, but you don’t hear many people doing that. They usually transfer after freshman year probably because its the easiest (requirement and GPA wise).

You can’t transfer internally if you are an external transfer into Penn.

“External Transfer students can apply for the dual degree program only (i.e., transfers are not accepted) after two resident semesters at Penn. They must complete the degree program in their home school. External transfer students accepted into the junior class at Penn are not eligible to apply for a dual degree with Wharton.”

I don’t think I’m the perfect candidate. But I have worked my ass off hundreds of times during the past six years. I did a ton of stuff in college, I was the VP of our accounting society, I helped lower income families prepare their taxes for three months, I drew an original comic strip in my campus newspaper for two years, I got a killer internship for this summer. I did even more during my high school years.
While getting a 700 on the SAT Verbal, a dozen of writing awards, and a 5 on my AP Literature test may not have seemed much to some people, they were really important accomplishments to me, considering how I had to learn English from scratch in my Freshman year of High School.

I am thinking of writing an email to the admission people asking for the reason behind my decision. I hope I will get a response, considering how I have been rejected twice.

Well, closure is good.

I think you should go to Cornell. The difference honestly between Cornell and Wharton is much much much smaller than the difference between crappy university and Cornell.

I know of an educational advisor who takes on pro bono cases. Specializes in the gifted and underachiever. Has an excellent record of getting charges into the school of choice. Perhaps you need some helop in accomplishing your objective from someone who may be able to access what is going onand why you are not achieving your objective. Sometimes things are evident to a professional which is not to the subject.

I meant assess not access!

You are a good candidate. You shouldn’t be upset about it. They didn’t reject you because you weren’t a great candidate. You will do fine where ever you go.

“They usually transfer after freshman year probably because its the easiest (requirement and GPA wise).”

It is easier requirement-wise, but the GPA cut-off is usually lower after sophomore year.

Eh? You sure about that? (I don’t know anyone who transfered after soph yr so…)
